Music:Amit Trivedi Dev D is a 2008 Romantic Drama film written and directed Anurag Kashyap as a modern day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel Devdas.The film was conceived by Abhay Deol, and then worked upon by Kashyap. United Television (UTV) (UTV) Motion pictures started a production arm called UTV Spot Boy to make small to medium budget films.Dev D is the first film to be made by this company. Anurag Kashyap did not want to do another remake of any the 9 previous films versions titled Devdas. His version was created as a modern take on the 1917 original classic novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.Kashap decided he wanted to make his own version of Devdas to reflect the original novel but through 2008 mores, with the lead character of Dedas as a debauching, hypocritcal sensualist, who is self destructive without knowing he is destroying himself. Plot: Devdas (Abhay Deol) is the son of a zamindar (tax collector). He and Paro {Mahi Gill) are childhood sweethearts. Differences in status and caste prevent their marriage. Devdas is sent to Calcutta while Paro is married off to a rich but aged widower. In Calcutta Devdas meets the prostitute Chandramukhi (Kalki) but remorse drives him to excesses.
