Farida Tabrez Barmavar better known as Farida Jalal is a very famous Bollywood actress.
PERSONAL DETAILS
Farida Tabrez Jalal was born on 14th March 1949 in New Delhi, India. Her husband, actor Tabrez Barmavar, died in September 2003. Farida and Tabrez have a son named Yaseen.
MOVIES
In 1960 she participated in Filmfare's United Producers Talent Hunt and as a child artiste, she got a role in a hit movie Chaudvin Ka Chand.
Jalal, who has acted in more than 100 movies, has played the roles of daughter, sister, a fiancée, and a family friend. Her most unforgettable performances include the role of a mentally challenged fiancée in Bobby (1973) and as Rajesh Khanna's girlfriend in Aradhana (1969).
After the 80s she started taking up the roles of mother, aunty or nanny. Farida took a break for a few years around 1983 and made her comeback in Henna (1991). She played many interesting roles in some of the biggest movies of Bollywood like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), Kya Kehna (2000), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) and many more.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) fetched her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Farida received the Filmfare Best Performance Award for her lead role in Shyam Benegal's Mammo (1994). She appeared in a Punjabi movie Yaariyan.
Her next release is the John Abraham starrer Aashayein expected to release in 2009.
TELEVISION
Farida has also acted in a number of TV serials starting with Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi in 1984. Jalal played Balraj's wife in the hilarious soap Dekh Bhai Dekh which was aired in the 90s and she was seen as Karishma's nani in Shararat (2003) on Star Plus. Farida has also hosted shows like Star Yaar Kalakar and the famous Star Parivaar Awards.
For a short period the actress appeared as Badi Jiji in one of the popular TV show Balika Vadhu aired on Colors TV.
