Jeetendra Biography

Jeetendra Jeetendra conjures up images in of his trademark white shoes. This “Jumping Jack” moved from an actor to the head of one of the most influential production houses.

Basics on Jeetendra
Jeetendra was born as Ravi Kapoor in Amritsar, Punjab on 7th April 1942. His family was into jewelry business and this brought him in touch with the film industry when V.Shantaram purchased jewelry from him.

The actor, though one of the most recognizable faces of his time, never won any awards for his performances and was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

He married Shobha Kapoor, who was an air hostess with British Airways. They have two children, Ekta and Tusshar. Ekta Kapoor runs the Balaji Telefilms with him. She is the woman behind many saas-bahu serials that swept away the Indian television audience. They have also produced movies which starred his son Tusshar Kapoor, who is an actor.

Jumping Jack
1959 to 1979 Jeetendra’s first movie opportunity was with V.Shantaram in Navrang (1959). It was Geet Gaya Patharon Mein (1964) that became his debut along with Rajshree. In Jigri Dost (1969) he was seen in a double role with Mumtaz.

Khilona’s (1970) success was followed by Nasir Hussain’s Caravan (1971) in which he played Mohan opposite Asha Parekh, who runs away from her husband. Gulzar’s Parichay (1972) was loosely based on Sound of Music and Jeetendra plays a tutor to five children and falls in love with one of them whose part was played by Jaya Bhaduri.

He was part of an impressive star cast in Nagin (1976) with Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan and Sanjay Khan. Jaani Dushman (1979) was another horror movie he appeared in with Sunil Dutt.

1980 to 1989 The Burning Train (1980) saw him as a thief on the train called the Super Fast Express. It had Dharamendra, Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna and Parveen Babi in lead roles.

He was seen in yet another double role in Mawaali (1983) with Jayapradha, with whom he shared good onscreen chemistry.

1990 to 2000 b Jeetendra appeared in Dil Aashna Hai (1992) which was directed by Hema Malini as Prince Arjun Singh. His other movies were Udhaar Ki Zindagi (1994), Ramesh Sippy’s Zamaana Deewana (1995), Mehmood’s Dushman Duniya Ka (1996) and Mother (1999).

He faced the camera for the movie Kucch to Hai (2002) and Om Shanthi Om (2007) and was also seen in a special appearance in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi and Jhalak Dikhla Ja.
