Lalita Pawar Biography

Lalita Pawar Lalita Pawar is an actress who popularly known for her cruel mother-in-law roles.
 
LALITA 
Lalita Pawar was born on 18 April 1916 as Amba Laxman Rao Sagun in Yevle, a village in Nashik. Lalita was born into the family of a silk and cotton piecegoods merchant, Laxman Rao Sagun. Lalita married director Ganpatrao Pawar. He was involved with her younger sister, so she left him and married producer Rajprakash Gupta. She has a son.
 
DID YOU KNOW? 
Actor Bhagwan Dada slapped Lalita which led to a facial paralysis and her left eye vein ruptured. She underwent treatments for three years but no improvement was seen in her defective eye.
 
MOVIES 
Lalita Pawar has acted in 700 movies including Hindi and Marathi films. She started in the film industry with Raja Harishchandra (1928) as a child artist. Bhalji Pendharkar's Netaji Palkar (1938), Navyug ChitrapatÂ?s Amrit, New Hana PicturesÂ? Sant Damaji, and Chhaya FilmsÂ? Gora Kumbhar are some of her hit films. She has acted in a number of silent films during the 1940's. Lalita co-produced Kailash (1932) and also played the triple roles of vamp, mother, and heroine in this silent film. In 1937 she produced one more movie, Duniya Kya Hai.
 
Some of her most unforgetable roles were in films like Anari (1959), Shri 420, and Mr & Mrs 55. In the Raj Kapoor and Nutan starring Anari she played a strict landlady named Mrs. D'sa. She appeared opposite Shammi Kapoor in Lekh Tandon's Professor (1962).
 
She played the role of wicked Manthra in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan and she was appreciated for her performance. In Sau Din Saas Ke (1980) she was seen as a widowed mother-in-law who tries to kill her daughter-in-law. 
 
She starred in Rajaram Vankudre Shantaram's Marathi film The Immortal Song (1951). This film entered the 1952 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Prize of the Festival. 
 
Bhai (1997) was her last film where she appeared as Om PuriÂ?s mother and Pooja BatraÂ?s granny. 
 
ACHIEVEMENTS 
In 1959 she won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in Anari and also the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1961. 
 
DEATH 
She died at the age of 82 on 24 February 1998 in Aundh, Pune.
