Madhur Bhandarkar has come a long way from being an errand boy at a video cassette library to becoming one of the most sought after Directors in Bollywood. Born on 26th August, 1966, in Mumbai, he has won several awards in the recent past for his Direction and Scripts.
As Assistant Director: Madhur has assisted on the making of Doodh Ka Karz (1990), Raat (1992), Drohi (1992) and Rangeela (1995).
As A Writer: Madhur not only gave the concept of Chandni Bar (2001), but was also its Writer. The multi award winning film dealt with the horrific lives of bar dancers and what they go through to maintain their dignity.
He wrote the dialogues and story of Satta (2003). A hard hitting film, it took a closer look at the kind of dirty politics minsters play to stay in power.
He penned the dialogues for Page 3 (2005). The movie gives the audience an inight into the lives of the Page 3 crowd, shamelessly taking off their fake masks.
He wrote the screenplay and story of Corporate (2006). The film wants us to believe that what one perceives about the prim and proper Corporate world is all a facade.
He wrote the dialogues, screenplay and story of Traffic Signal (2007). The film delves into the lives of street people, and goes into the Mumbai underworld and politics.
He wrote the story and screenplay of Fashion (2008). The film, like his previous ones, looks at a glamour industry with a magnifying glass, in this case the Fashion World.
As Director: Bhandarkar's first film as a Director was Trishakti (1999). The film sank without a trace.
He went on to Direct Chandni Bar and Satta. Both were critically acclaimed.
In 2004 he Directed Aan: Men at Work. Though the subject of the film was good it bombed at the box office.
He then Directed Page 3, Corporate, Traffic Signal and Fashion. All of them were successful not just in the critcs' view, but also at the box office.
In 2009 the audiences will get to see his Jail, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse. It highlights the pitiful condition of Indian prisoners. Producer: Madhur has Co-Produced Fashion.
