Om Puri Biography

Om Puri Om Puri is an actor who has made a mark in not just Bollywood but also in the international film scene.

Basics on Om Puri
Om Puri was born on 18th October 1950 in Ambala, India. His growing up years were spent in Sanaur, Punjab, India. His interest in acting took him to the Film and Television Institute of India and the National School of Drama.

He is married to Nandita and they have a child too.

Puri has acted in nearly two hundred movies since 1976. The kind of roles he has been seen in are diverse.

During the eighties he was seen on the small screen in Kakkaji Kaheen (1988) and Mr.Yogi (1989).
 
Om Puri’s Movie
Om Puri’s first movie was Ghashiram Kotwal (1976). He played Bhiku in Aakrosh (1980); Bhavani Pandey in Shyam Benegal’s Kalyug (1981); Nahar in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi (1982) and as Principal Phande in Holi (1984) which also saw the entry of Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker and Paresh Rawal.

He was part of some successful commercial movies like Ghayal (1990), Maachis (1996), Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) and Pyar Tho Hona Hi Tha (1998).

In 2000, he was seen as Goel in Kamal Haasan’s Hey Ram and as Karak Singh in the comedy Hera Pheri. His other movies include Rang De Basanti (2006) as Aslam’s father; as Daamchand in Priyadarshan’s Billu (2009) and as Sonam Kapoor’s father in Delhi 6 (2009).

His British films include East is East (1999)and The Parole Officer (2001) while in Hollywood he made appearances in The Ghost and The Darkness (1996), City of Joy (1992) and Wolf (1994).
