Priyadarshan Biography

Priyadarshan Priyadarshan is a prominent film director and screenplay writer in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. He’s known to repackage hits to give life to new ones.

Basics on Priyadarshan
Priyadarshan was born in Thiruvananthapuram, India to Mr.Nair who worked as a librarian at the University of Kerala.

He had an inclination to play cricket professionally but an injury to his left eye owing to a cricket ball dashed his hopes.

He is married to Lizzy, a Malayalam actress also known as Lakshmi Priyadarshini, with whom he has worked with in several movies. They have two children, Kalyani and Siddharth.

Priyadarshan in the Director’s Chair
1984 to 1992  Priyadarshan wrote and directed the Malayalam comedy Poochakkoru Mookkuthi in 1984 which became a huge hit. It was remade in Hindi as Hungama in 2003. He worked with friend Mohanlal in Boeing Boeing (1985) that was another comedy. Chitram (1988), with Mohanlal playing the lead was a commercial success. The movie was reworked in Hindi as Chori Chori with Mithun Chakraborthy.

1993 to 1997  Abhimanyu (1991) was a story around the involvement of a man with the underworld. Gardish (1993) starring Jackie Shroff and Dimple Kapadia was a remake of Sibi Malayil’s Kireedam. Other movies include Kaala Pani (1996) an action-drama with Mohanlal and Tabu, Chandralekha (1997) and Virasat (1997) a copy of Kamal Hassan’s Thevar Magan with Anil Kapoor, Tabu and Pooja Batra.

1998 to 2002  Hera Pheri (2000) was a hit comedy that was based on Ramji Rao Speaking. He directed the Tamil movie Laysa Laysa (2002) with Madhavan and Trisha Krishnan that was built on the original Summer in Bethlahem Cheppu.

2003 to 2009  He went on to direct several funnies in Hindi like Garam Masala (2005), Malamaal Weekly (2006), Chup Chup Ke (2006), Mere Baap Pehle Aap (2008) and Bhool Bulaiyya (2007), a horror flick.

In 2009, he has two releases - Billu Barber based on Kadha Parayumbol with Shah Rukh Khan and Irrfan Khan and De Dhana Dhan, a comic caper with Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty.
