Shankar Mahadevan was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He studied at the OLPS High School in Chembur. His college years were spent at R.A.I.T, Mumbai where he studied Computer Science Engineering. He was associated with Oracle Corporation.

He is a part of the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
