Vishal Bharadwaj Biography

Vishal Bharadwaj Vishal Bharadwaj, who has explored several areas of film making, has an envious track record. He is a Bollywood director, music composer, writer and producer.

Basics on Vishal
Vishal Bharadwaj was born on the 6th August 1960 in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, India. His father Ram Bharadwaj was a poet and lyricist.

He completed his graduation at the Hindu College, New Delhi.

He is married to Rekha Bharadwaj, who is a singer.

Music Composer
While in New Delhi, Bharadwaj began performing with various ghazal singers, playing the harmonium.

After working with Gulzar on Alice in Wonderland, Jungle Book and Guchche, he composed the music for Maachis (1996) which was widely appreciated. He won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction for Godmother.

He continued to belt out his own brand of music for movies like Satya (1998), Hu Tu Tu (1999) and Nishabd (2007).

Writer & Producer
He has written screenplays like Kaminey (2009), Omkara (2006), The Blue Umbrella (2005), Maqbool (2003) and Makdee (2002).

Ishqiya (2009), Kaminey (2009), The Blue Umbrella (2005), No Smoking (2007) and Makdee (2002) are few of the movies that he has produced.

Director
Vishal Bharadwaj made his directorial debut with a children’s movie Makdee (2002). He then made the critically acclaimed Maqbool (2003) which he adapted from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Irrfan Khan played Maqbool and Tabu played Nimmi, which were based on the characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth respectively.

His next release was The Blue Umbrella (2005), based on a story by Ruskin Bond. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film.

Shakespeare proved lucky for Bharadwaj yet again, as his next movie Omkara (2006) adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello became a commercial and critical success. It won him the National Film Award’s Special Jury Award.

In 2007, he directed a short film Blood Brothers which was part of the HIV-AIDS Awareness.

His next release is Kaminey (2009) with Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Gupta and Amol Gupte. This director who has worked with Francis Ford Coppola, will be directing Aishwarya Rai next.
