Zakir Hussain grew up in Meerut and studied in Delhi. While he was in Delhi, he was attracted to theater and eventually joined the Shri Ram Center of Performing Arts and later the National School of Drama.

Movies
Zakir Hussain’s debut as an actor on the silver screen was in Ek Haseena Thi (2004). This was a story of a man who plants drugs on his girlfriend and looks the other way when she is imprisoned. She eventually comes back seeking revenge. The lead characters were played by Saif Ali Khan and Urmila Matondkar while Hussain played the character of Sanjay.
He appeared in critically acclaimed movies like Black Friday (2004), Vaastu Shastra (2004), and as Rashid in Sarkar (2005).
In the comedy, Fool n Final (2007), he was seen as JD and the following year acted the role of Shardul in Johnny Gaddar (2007). He played a police officer in Krazzy 4 (2008) and was seen as Manja in the supernatural thriller Phoonk (2008).
In 2009, he appeared in two comedies, Bad Luck Govind and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.
