Mani Ratnam's Agni Natchathiram is rated among his best. The rather routine story of two step-brothers fighting over their father was given a fresh look by the ace film-maker. And stunning photography was a huge strength apart from Illayaraja's superlative music.
Now, almost two-and-half decades later, plans are on to re-make the movie. Dharani of Ghilli fame is set to wield the megaphone. However, the cast hasn't been finalised as yet.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that Vikram Prabhu, and Gautham Karthik, Prabhu Ganesan and Karthik’s sons respectively, may be roped in to reprise the roles made so famous by their fathers in the original.
Makers feel casting Vikram and Gautham would lend a touch of authenticity to the re-make. The female leads are yet to be decided. It may be recalled that Amala and Nirosha played the leading ladies in the original.
