Veena Malik has finally made her grand entry into Sandalwood. The actress is presently in Bangalore for a Photo Shoot and Press meet of her debut film, Dirty Picture – Silk Sakath Hot Maga and we caught up with the actress for an interview. Here are some excerpts:
There were speculations earlier that you might make your debut in Bollywood, but you’ve chosen Sandalwood. Why?
I always had a fascination for South Indian films. Whenever manager Kuldeep Mehta dropped by, I would watch a South Indian film. He would always ask me why I watch south Indian movies despite not knowing the language. Frankly speaking, I love watching South films, I like the style and choreography and I always wanted to be a part of the South Indian film industry. I feel lucky to have realised my dreams.
Why a Dirty Picture?
I have been getting many offers from the Tamil film industry. I have been getting women oriented and off-beat films for a while. But I was waiting for a strong film and I found one in the form of Dirty Picture. The script was too good to refuse. I got so emotionally attached to the script, that I wept.
What part of the script moved you?
It’s a neat script from beginning to the end. But the climax is too emotional. The film is all about a story of a girl. But there is a message for men too. The film is a huge challenge for me. People are going to applaud my performance in the film. My family and friends are pretty excited about me getting such a role. I think I am lucky that I got such a role in the initial days of my career. I am very happy and I think my dreams have come true.
Veena has always been considered Controversy’s favourite child. Your view?
When you are a celebrity, controversies and speculations are quite common. When you are an actor, break-ups and patch-ups are common. The media is more concerned about an actor’s personal life. I have been a victim of this, but I don’t mind. Beauty and filth is everywhere. Most of the beautiful people’s lives are really dirty.
Any plans of learning Kannada?
I must learn Kannada and I have plans to learn Kannada soon. I might start learning when the shooting for the film starts next month.
