Karthi’s debut film Paruthiveeran was one of the greatest hits in Tamil when it released four years back. The film was directed by Ameer and had a ‘senior’ Priyamani opposite a debutant Karthi in a script set up in a rural surrounding of Tamil Nadu. Director Ameer’s treatment of the subject and amazing acting by the lead pair ensured that the film turned out to be a box-office hit.
The film also got for Priyamani the coveted national award for ‘best actress’. The dusky actress, however, changed track and starred in many ultra-glamorous roles in Tamil and Telugu films in order to acquire a ‘sexy image’ for her and propelling to the top in both industries. The film is now coming to Telugu thanks to the efforts of Tangaprabhakaran and has been titled Malligadu.
Karthi’s whose films have always done well in Telugu, is upbeat about Malligadu’s showing in Telugu and hopes that the film would make him more popular among rural audiences. “The film kicked off my career in the film industry and I earnestly hope it turns out to be a big hit in Telugu as well,” he says. Priyamani too is optimistic of the film’s chances and says she felt great to have played the female lead in the film.
The film music by Yuvan Shankar Raja was also a super hit. S.S. Rajamouli, who happened to listen to the film’s songs, couldn’t stop marveling at Raja’s musical genius. The film is set to be released all over the state on March 2.
