The very mention of the name Haridas evokes memories of the classic made some time in the 1940s with M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar in the lead. The film set a record of sorts by running in a single theatre for nearly 110 weeks.
Now, a film is being made in Tamil under the same title and quite naturally the hopes are high. Director GNR Kumaravelan of Ninaithale Inikkum fame has taken it upon himself to make the film.
The movie has Polladhavan (2007) baddie Kishore and Sneha in the lead roles and has music by Vijay Antony.
The new Haridas looks at an eight-year-old boy's view of, life and his father. Prithviraj Das plays the boy in question and is said to be pivotal to the movie.
The director Kumarvelan has said that for every child, his or her father is the first hero and that is the basic knot of the script.
It must be noted that Sneha, who was inked to play a role in Superstar Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan, gave her nod to work in Haridas, as she reportedly found the character more interesting.
The shooting of the film that is being produced by Dr V Ramadoss is in progress and is expected to release sometime in June.
