Popular actress Jayaprada is all set to return to acting, sources say. The actress, who has been in active politics for more than a decade or so, last starred in a Tamil film in Kamal Haasan’s Dasavathaaram wherein she played the wife of one of the ‘ten’ Kamal Haasans in the film. It was a small but impressionable character and as always, Jayaprada was at her best.
Once described by film-maker Satyajit Ray as the ‘epitome of Indian woman’ for her classical features and ultra-slim figure, Jayaprada had starred in many Tamil, Telugu and Hindi movies before taking to politics.
She now plans to re-launch herself into films with the Bhojpuri remake of the all-time classic Telugu flick Maathru Devo Bhava, which would remain etched in the memory of the Telugu audiences for a long time to come. She plays the lead role in the film and it does take guts for an actress to take on the ‘lead role’ in a film when she is in her fifties.
The original Maathru Devo Bhava, which released in 1993, was directed by Ajay Kumar and had Nasser and Madhave as Jayaprada’s co-stars. After 19 years, the film is to be remade in Bhojpuri language. Jayaprada and popular Bhojpuri actor Dhinak Kapoor are slated to play lead roles in the film. Sources close to the actress say that she also plans to make films in future.
