Kollywood producers fight to retain their films’ titles

There has been a huge rush of producers and film-makers in ensuring that they get to name their films after the titles they get registered with the Producers’ Council.  It is widely believed in Kollywood that half-the success of films are decided when the films are given ‘appropriate’ and ‘catchy’ titles which makes it easy for the viewers to remember the same and go for it when these films are released in theatres.

Director Hari, who made last year’s not-so-successful Venghai starring Dhanush and Tamannaah in the lead, reportedly had to indulge in lot of ‘hard-talk’ over phone with an assistant director before ‘wresting’ from him the right to retain his title.  That it didn’t help him much in the final analysis is a different issue altogether.

Even as Vijay has just completed the shooting schedule of A.R. Murugadoss-directed Thuppakki, there is another film in the making with the title Kallathuppakki.  Fans of the actor are apprehensive of both the films releasing simultaneously and creating confusion at the box-office.

Director A.L. Vijay, who has completed the shoot of his upcoming film Thandavam starring Vikram, Anushka, Amy Jackson and Lakshmi Rai, also faces problems with the title of his film as there is another film in the making with the same title and starring Pandiyarajan and Saranya Mohan.  As the Vikram-starrer is produced by a leading production house (UTV Motion Picutres), it might end up having the last laugh.

The other Thandavam might hit the screens with the title of R. Sankarain Thandavam, it is reported.  Actor Vijay’s upcoming film was to be titled as Thalaivan but when the makers approached the Producers’ Council, they were told that the title had already been registered under another producer’s name.  As such, a hunt is on for a new title for Vijay’s film.
