The Telugu-Hindi bilingual remake of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s 1973 hit film Zanjeer gets bigger with each passing day. A couple of days ago, top Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra was reportedly signed up as Ram Charan Teja’s heroine for a whopping sum of Rs.9 crores, which is said to be an Indian record for any actress. Ram Charan himself is said to have been paid a whopping sum of Rs.12 crores, say unconfirmed reports.
Priyanka would be essaying the role played by AB’s real-life wife Jaya in the original version. Apparently as part of his efforts in playing the role of the ‘angry young man’ made immortal by Amitabh in many movies including Zanjeer, Ram Charan and director Apoorva Lakhia met Amitabh though it was said to be a ‘chance meeting’ and not a formally arranged one.
Amitabh too, reportedly was eager to meet the hero who would be stepping into his role in Zanjeer. Overwhelmed by Amitabh’s presence, Ram sought his blessings by bending and touching his feet and explained to him the sequence which was being shot on that day. As always, the courtesy-personified Amitabh enquired about Chiranjeevi’s health and wished him well.
Tweeting, Charan said that Zanjeer kicked off in right earnest after he ‘met and sought AB’s blessings!'
