Ban on remakes
After copying from hollywood movies now the filmmakers are going for remakes of yesteryear hindi movies and by doing so they have spoiled the essence of the classics  the best example of this is the latest movie rgv ki aag ,in which ram gopal varma tried to remake sholay, which is one of the bestest movies made in bollywood And aag  one of the worst movies ever made  Last year saw the remakes of yesteryear classics  don and umrao jaan again this remakes proving to be disasters i heard that amar akbar anthony is also going to be remade i guess the concept of remakes should be banned  wonder what filmmakers are trying to prove by remakes this shows that indian filmmakers lack creativity

Re: Ban on remakes
I dont think they should ban remakes.. They should make official remakes and pay for the copyrights to the original film-makers.. The filmmakers should have the common sense to choose the right movie to remake and work on the script for it work in today's times.. not necessarily setting the movie in modern times but use the modern day's technology.. But the mistake these filmmakers are committing is remaking some of the evergreen classics which are still fresh in the memory of the public.. Movies like Mother India, Mughal-e-azam, Sholay and Amar Akbar Anthony are still fresh in people's minds.. Even Hollywood remake movies frequently but you never hear about them remaking classics like Gone with the wind. They choose great movies from the past that are not as popular to remake. An excellent example is the movie that came out last week - 3:10 to Yuma.. This movie is set in the 19th century and is a western but critics consider this movie to be way superior to the the original of the same name that came out in the 50s.

Re: Ban on remakes

the genuineness of the intent to remake is not very clear to me... they get too much publicity in the beginning till their release, and ppl do get to know enough about the original also so the comparisons are inevitable... i am all for banning them... the undue publicity they get out by associating themselves with the original and all the hype that follows and finally the disappointment when the movie is out is not woth my time, energy and money... i am much more okay with remakes of hollywood or other language movies as i dont get to catch up on them so regularly...

just to give you an example, i watched some telugu movies (with english subtitles) - anand, godavari and pokkiri are worth mentioning, there is a new director, sekhar kammala in telugu movies who got national award for his first movie (anand) and indeed the movie was beautiful... i think if that gets remade in hindi, bollywood would see good cinema...
