Has Bollywood come of age ?

I saw Manorma six feet under last week and johnny gaddar just now. Both are amazing amazing thrillers. They are definitely hatke movies, and can compare well with any top class movie.

Whats your take ? Has bollywood come of age ? should we expect to see such brilliant movies in future - is this brilliance a fluke or pattern ?

I certainly believe bollywood has come of age. Look at bheja fry - amazing comedy, these two movies are amazing thrillers. I think this is the start of great cinema in india !!..

sure it has.,the kind of movies we r seeing (for quite some time now) are simply outstanding.but still it has to go a long way,as indian cinema lacks in originality(sometimes).there is still a huge scope for new ideas and treatment.but unfortunately that does not(mostly)go well with box-office that makes producer very sceptical and  prevent them of being experimental.

Re: Has Bollywood come of age ?
the movie of indian cinema has to improve a lot we say that a movie depends on the people who come to watch it .i agree with this but i wat to add that a movie depends upon it's director. and indian movie do not win oscars because indian cinema does not has a originalty of its own and the movie should have a original story

not so sure.. the good movies have to be appreciated for the good filmmakers to continue making good movies.. was checking indiafm and noticed that manorama six feet under which I hear is a good movie earned 25 lakhs in one week allover India and Dhol which is a remake of some old 80s malyalam movie and that has already been remade in Hindi with chunky pandey in the early 90s has earned 4-5 crores ..

Re: Has Bollywood come of age ?

amit - bheja fry might be a copy - but it is a brilliant movie nonetheless. Look at RGV ki aag - and you can see how a movie can be copied and screwed up big time.  Bheja fry has been localized to the indian environment in an excellent - bharat bhushan is totally amazing and he would make sense only in indian environment...

crux is it may be copied/inspired.. but it is brilliant, and thats what matters.

i think its early for us to say that filmmakers are making great movies The kind of movies we are seeing this days  mostly inspired by hollywood flicks Look at hey baby and dhamaal  (inspired by  its a mad mad mad mad world and three men and a baby) i agree with birju filmmakers lack originality and bollywood has a long way to go
