Manmohan Desai and Laxmikant-Pya relal..."SUPER HIT" combo.
Director Manmohan Desai entered into the film Industry as a Screenplay and Storywriter. In sixties and in early seventies Manmohan Desai has give many hit films as director.
In 1977, when the director Manmohan Desai started his own Production Company MKD films by launching his first film ("Amar Akabar Anthony")as a Producer and the Director. His first choice was Laxmikant-Pyarelal as a music director. Earlier Manmohan Desai and LP were associated with the super hit film “Roti” ( Rajesh Khanna – Mumtaz starer) . The association of LP and Manmohan Desai (MKD Films)continued till “Deewana Masatana” 1997.
"Amar Akabar Anthony" made the history in the Film Industry.
"Amar Akhbar Anthony" which was released in 1977. The music of Laxmikant Pyarelal and the lyrics of Anand Bakshi. The film stared Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor. Neetu Singh, Parveen Bhabi and Pran.
Pyarelal had been taught the violin by a musician called Anthony Gonsalves so he decided to use his name for a song. After seeking permission from his teacher the duo created the song " My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves". The song became a hit as did the album and after a gap of eight years, the musical duo picked up the Film Fare Award for best music director. Suffice to say Pyarelal dedicated the award to his teacher. But the duo weren't the only ones to benefit from the album.
Mohammad Rafi's career had been going through a lull but the Qwaali Parda Hai changed this.
The other song to make history was " Hum Ko Tumse" because it was the first and last time that four singing sensations - Lata Mangeskar, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Rafi sung together.
When the film was released it became a huge hit and went on to win two more Film Fare Awards - one in the Best Editor category but more importantly Amitabh Bachachan won his first Film Fare award for Best Actor.
