i am a great fan of Mohammd Rafi and Kishore kumar.

but if someone ask me to choose just one i will choose Mohammad Rafi.beacause he also sung for kishore.kkishore is also a great fan of Mohammad Rafi.kishore kumar had only one photography in his bunglow and that photo was Mohammad Rafi 's photo.

Romantic songs, sad songs, bhajans, soft numbers, very high pitched songs, qawallies, classical songs, patriotic songs....Rafi is the only singer to sing song in the highest pitch possible....

kishore never sang a qawally except one on jetendra which was very mediocre, he never sang a bhajan, yes he sung semi-classical but not classical....he never sang patriotic songs.....he was not at all good at very high pitch songs...!!!

There is no comparison for Kishore. He was way ahead of Rafi. There is nothing great to sing Qawaali, Bhajan and other types of songs. My dear friend, MDs did not offer these kind of songs, because there are other soft/thin voice singers who can sing those songs.

kishore sang bhajans. in fact in a movie where lp used rafi for many songs they used kishore for bajan "muze prem ka rog laga!". infact bhajan singer anup jalota's style is lot based on Kishore. he himself said it in interview. kishore sang ghazals as well( mere mehbbob kayamat hogi dil aaj shayar hai) and had electrifying characterstic kishore taan "aankhoe humne aapke sapane sajaye hai " duet with lata ( khayyam composer) and jab bhi koi kangana bole pyal khamnak jaye ( RD burman). kishore wanted to do an lp of bhajans of kabir privately just bfore he died. Also ghazal is famous for words there is lesser scope for music qawwali Is group singing. rarely quawwali's form offbeat scores. kishore expressed "hume tumse pyar kitana" in a soft voice and  specialpronounciation . in fact lata said she cant excel the impact of kishore's rendition ( which was first) and suggested RD burman to get the mujra recoreded form classicla singer "parveen sultana"  to match the effect of soft voice with classical nuances. no other singer in india has sung a full song  whoose other version is sung by classical singer.  The voice of Kishore in songs like "kab tak andhere chalate rahenge", "yeh jeevan hai" zindagi ka safar is unimitable and immortal. such types of songs are not listed in types above . his singing for "mere sang sang aaya teri yadoka mela " is modern and has ditict style

Kishore sang beautiful bhajans. in aaspas where rafi sang many songs kishore was called for bhajan "muze pyar ka rog laga". if u ote hat famous bhajan singer "anup jalota" s voice is similar to kishore annd he has also remarked hat in college days he was asked to sing many kishore songs.

As far as gazal is considered the two gazals "dil aaj shair hai" and "mere mehboob kayamat hogi" come to mnd.

Rafi has never been able to render a song in such effective voice as at i kishore's " kab tak andhere manko chalenge" or "ye jeevan hai"( so soft voice softer thahn lori),  "jeevan se na haar jeenevale", "zindagi ka safr hai ye kaisa safr", " aanewala pal"

Pancham(rd burman)  did use rafi but even after 1977 his most songs are recorded with kishore and gr8 serious songs like Aanewala pal (1979), Rimzim gire sawan( 1978), gulmohar agar tumhara nam hota, semiclassical ("aapki aankhome), phir wahi raat hai.

 sdb always preferred kishore to rafi right from begining. if u see the real tadafdar song and catch tune in movie it was laways for kishore "hum matwale naujawan, mana janab ne pukara nahi, hum hai rhi pyar ke, ye dil na hota bechra, likha hai teri aankhome" rafi was preferred for slower songs and after aradhana sd burman completely favored kishore see prempujari, tere mere sapne, sharmili, gambler ( dilaaj shayar hai). rdb lways used rafi for nasir husain ut in abdulla see the serious song "ae khuda her faisala ter a muze manjur hai" a sad ong in contrast to light "maine pucha chandese". n act rd always refered nsused kishore in serious and romantic songs. the song "pucho na " is not disco. there asha scores. Lp did prefer rafi but even hey had to use kishore.

rafi can not sing the songs " ye jeevan hai, "zindagi ka safar", "kab tak andhere ", "ane wala pal"  in such soft, philospohical, deep, sweet voice. kishore has sung patritic song "hum hai hinostanke" a very good song. kishore has sung the bhajan "muze prem ka rog laga" solo when other songs in movie weere sung  "rafi" and the bhajan "sagare jagat ka tu rakhwala with mahendra kapur

kishore has avoided swaroatics mostly 9 electrifying taan a variation which is ot taken by latain the duet "aankho me hune aapke ", and "jab bhi koi kngana bole -1987 - "shaukin' are exceptions). his singing was based on the philosophy of catching moodofthe song

rafi was ased on "pronounciation of words like "nichoda in "zindagi bhar nahi bhulegi brsat ki raat". sorafi was a "word stress singing style kishore's was "a style catching mood and based on "laya" of the song.

as regards impossiblity please refer to the song "gujar gaye din din " compsed by salil chaudhary in "annadata". this is a straight progression and very difficult to sing. in words of salil chouhary that he was running aftr kihore for 15 days to get him to sing as he is the only one whocan do 905 justice to the tune! now what aout this1salil was a "mukesh" fan in hindi and yet his one of the ost memrable and difficult male tune is woith kishore "koi hota jisko aona" . only other such dificult tune of salil is "zindagi kaisi hai paheli" by manna de in annand apart from "gujar gaye " mentioned above.

do u know that salil mae rfai take 36 reatkes for "tute hue khwabome" in madhumati. 

so as eagrds tunes which an not be sung by others is not rafi monoploy. lta mangeshkar claerly remarked many times that in serious songs "kishore" is ultimate and he was the best singer in all of them( in recent interview with maharashtra times when she turned 80. in the sane interview she says that she loves her duets with rafi most.

remeber kishore was spoted and nurtured by the greates md of India "s.d burman". 

 as far as sugam sangeet is considered kishore was the graetes male singer of india. likewise afi used to say that e listens songs of only Manna de in his home for classicla rendition mastery.

if somebody can call k.l saigal an ordinary singer then clealry there can be no discussion as everybody including lata idolize him. also badi mastani hai is too mediocre a song to even comapre with roop tera mastana . where is dada burman composition with superb innovative orchestration of "roop tera mastana" and where is stree composition of dholaktaal laxmikant pyarelal who are generally credited with ruining bollywood music though they have given some memorable songsand most which are again in voice of kishore!

 if some body's taste is badi mastani hai then sorry i wil back out beacuse this is street singing and not singing for classes. forget of rafi versus kishore i would like u to listen salil cjhoudfhary compositions or the saregamapa show on zee marathi where excellent clasical semiclassical and pop tunes composed by stalwarts like rhidyanath mangeshkar, sriniwas khale etc are rendered. it seems that people have forgotten test for what is classy and good taste music! please note that there is no kishore here!. this is just an illustration of what is good muisc as opposed to trash "badi mastani hai meri mehbooba"

All You Said Above is Your Personal Opinon.   We all the Fans of Rafi cannot agree with You.   ‘Badi Mastani Hai “ in ur opinion is average song. You seem to be a big fan of Salil Chaudry & R.D Burman.  Salil used Rafi for some of his best tunes. “Toote Hue Khawaboon ne” from Madhumati is an example.Madhumati is his best work.But Salil dada did not use  your Kishore kumar  for any song.  R.D Burman Used Rafi for one of his best tunes.  “Teesri Manzil “was big hit .The music of the film was Superb. Rafi  Sung all the songs.He did not Use K.K

It is an astonishing fact that O.P. Nayar used Rafi to sing for Kishore Kumar the unforgettable tune Man Mora Bawra in Ragini in 1957. Shanker Jaikishan also had Rafi to sing Ajab Hai Dastan in Shararat in 1958. Says record museum owner Vinod Santhalia, It is simply amazing. Imagine Mohd. Rafi sang for Kishore Kumar in films Kishore himself acted.

Shanker Jaikishan commented, No doubt Kishore Kumar is a good singer. He sang beautifully for me in Rangoli. But Ajab Hai Dastan was simply not Kishores cup of tea. The mukhdas and antaras required a singer of Rafis range and classical background

slil chodhary kishore for one of his two best tumes (koi hota jisko apna hum pana kahalte yaro a very diificult tune which uses all 3 octaves for a sad song. similarly he waited for kishore for the very diificult tue "gujar gay din" as he said only kishore can do 905 justice to this. tute hue khwabome sgood but not regaded in best of salil choudhary tunes. in the same movie for dilip he used " mukesh" suahan safar " which isa classic tune.

Sj used rafi for kishore for two reasons kishore was busy acig and no time for rehersals and politics. in the same movie the best tune is given to kishore. the tuns wchich sj used kisore even in fities were the gr8 "nakharewali, chotisi ye duniya", rangoli sajyaye" as i said chitragupta used kishore for a clssical and very hit song "payalwali dekh na" in ganga ki lahare. true kishore was not the most sought after singer in fifties and he was struggling. everybody listend lata saying amonst all kishore was the best singer. asha remarhed kishore is 1.5 times rafi . the bharatratna bhimsen joshi thegreatest classical singer of india is a fan of kishore. anyway rafi's classical is matched by other type of yodelling alalps kishore has taken in mai hu zumroo, nakhrewali. opnayyar had remarked along with lata in fifties that if kishore takes singing seriously he will make chutti of the leading singers. kishore was not classically trained. i do not get driven by allapi whch can be done much eter than rafi by bhimsen, kumargandharva, pt jasraj or manna de, yesudas for that matter.

kishore hasd simly majestic divine voice matched to lata. the impact of the voice 9 there is no background) the depth sweetness and softness can be remarkably elt in "kab tak anfhere chalate rahenge", "ye jeevan hai", "jeeven se na har jeenewale". even when rafi alive and very much in vogue at the time of batobatome rajesh roshan used kishore rather than rafi for "kab tak andher".

simlarly s.d buran the mastero used manna des playback to kishore for all songsin 1968 when he used kishore for aradhana  to iill the politics create bygiving rafi's playback to kishore.

secondly sj.pn al used kishore but then he was usy in acting and rafi had become lead singer. it was very clear that kishore was the only competition to rafi aoprt from man de the punjabi lobby opn and sj decided at hat time not to displease the leading singer (rafi) at that time.i

i am fan of sd burman and sall chodhary and sdburman right from begining promoted kishore and stood by his side. he is regarded as the greatest mastero of india. ofcourse just as he sed lta/asha both he usd both kishore/rafi both. when uestioned y is consistent usage of kishore he saifd kishore/asha reere chte surs. after aradhana he said now kishore is my nly and prominent sur.
