Surprising that so little is known about this multi-faceted actor. To begin with, Ashiesh Roy hails from the same college in Delhi (Kirorimal College) which has given the Hindi Film Industry such popular talents as Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Dinesh Thakur, Ravi Vaswani, playback singer KK, film director Kabir Khan and script writer Vijay Krishna Acharya. Ashiesh began his career in media with quiz master Sidhhartha Basu as his chief Assistant Director and went on to direct his own telefilms and corporate projects. His first telefilm 'Ahsaas' which he directed at the young age of 24, won several awards. Then he joined the theatre group Ruchika and worked under the direction of Feisal Alkazi for three years, later joining another theatre group Act One, where his colleagues were Manoj Bajpayee, Ashish Vidyarthy, Piyush Mishra & Shoojit Sarkar. It was while doing a Vijay Dan Detha play 'Kenchuli' that the late Pearl Padumsee saw him and insisted that he pack his bags and head for Mumbai. Ashiesh came to Mumbai in 1996, and did theatre with Dolly Thakore, Aly Khan & Anaheeta Uberoi. Then in 1997, he got his major break in the popular Zee soap "Banegi Apni Baat", in which he played the romantic character of Abhishek. Then followed a spate of comedies like Himesh Reshammiya's 'Nirma Aha', 'Movers & Shakers', 'Vilayati Babu', 'Chamatkar', 'I Love You', 'Fool Too Paagal Hai' etc, which unfortunately slotted him as a comic actor.
But some still remember his spine-chilling portrayal of the sadistic, wife-beating husband in Anjum Rizvi's Zee soap 'Daayre' and the sinister ward boy Rajan in Cinevistaas' 'Ayushmaan'. But because of his slotting, serious roles were hard to come by. Until this year, when one saw him in a refreshingly sensitive portrayal of Sourav Ghosh in Star Tv's weekly soap 'Aek Chabhi Hai Padoss Mein'.
Few know that Ashiesh is also an expert dubbing artiste and writer - having translated top Hollywood films & animation serieals in Hindi. Some of his notable translations include the Oscar-winning Disney feature 'Finding Nemo', Wild Wild West, Cellular, Gurinder Chaddha's Aishwarya Rai starrer 'Mistress of Spices, 'Urban Legend', Terminatot-II'. He has won the prestigious RAPA Award for adapting 'The Mask'in 2001.
Till date, he has three film releases to his credit : Vinta Nanda's 'White Noise', Shyam Benegal's 'Bose' & Sujoy Ghosh's 'Home Delivery' . His forthcoming films are Robbie Grewal's 'MP3' & Mukta Arts' 'Khanna vs Iyer'.
Currently, Ashiesh is busy doing theatre, adfilms and hosting live events, besides television.
A truly versatile personality.
