Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum – reminded me of a childhood story…a fairy tale kinda stuff.

A sage did not have children, His wife was sad about it. One day while offering his prayers to Sun, an almost dead she-mouse landed in his hand. He turned it into a baby girl and gives to his wife.

Years pass. Girl becomes an adult. Now she has to be wed off – rules of the society.SO the sage approaches the mightiest of entities for his daughter – Mountain,Wind…but she rejects them all. Ultimately she sees a mouse and blushes beetroot red. Her father (the sage) sees it and smiles – Roots – yeah ! roots can never be forgotten !So he turns her back into a mouse and weds her off to the mouse.

Similarly – Amitabh adopts Shah Rukh – brings him from an orphanage – what kind of children reach the orphanage? Mostly whose parents are any of these : wasteful  irresponsible/ poverty stricken or some natural / unnatural calamity.

Shah goes to London for degree. He travels by Airplanes. And who does he fall for? For his Aayah’s (Maid servant called Governess to sound British like) neighbor whose father had a small sweet meat shop. The girl who could not speak a word of English , was uncouth, rustic. They say that men are usually drawn towards those women who somewhat remotely remind them of their mothers / aunts / sisters ..basically the kinds of women they have grown up with, lived with. But Shah probably went for his roots – probably the kind of mother he actually belonged to – who had left him in the orphanage…due to bechari..laachari – whatever !!

He rejects a sophisticated beauty Rani for the village rustic!! Think about it – will Laxmi Mittal’s son ever even look at his maid’s daughter’s friend? NEVER. So such movies only raise the expectations of poor people and they live sadly ever after. Expectation reduces joy.

A street dog can never become a breedy fella .... even if he plays with 101 Dalmatians or German Shepherds !
