I am little confused about the abilities of RGV. Is he awesome or is he just plain lucky ? He has given amazing films like Rangeela, Sarkar, Company and at the same time has given total TRASH like RGV ki Aag, Shiva remake. 

What is your take ? is he great director or just lucky or eccentric ? Why is he sometimes great , sometimes shabby ?

- actually I am a big fan of RGV , Some of my favorite films are koun , sarkar, ek hasina thi, company.

- I think he wants to create many many films - his company's name is RGV Factory, and thats why he takes these newcomers  and produces these films at a fast pace. In this process sometimes he succeeds , sometimes he fails (miserably). He takes care of few of his films very well and they come out nicely.  Others may fail . But thats okay in a factory where you churn out products (in this case films) day by day 

- RGV ki Aag definitely smells very amatuerish. and if this is the product of RGV's direct supervision, then I am sad - RGV has possibly lost it.  

N_zamana rangeela is the only rgv film which i liked  i think he is the most overrated director  As for that remake, sholay is a masterpiece probably one of the best movies ever made Look at the casting(except bigB)  cant imagine  Nisha kothari in the role of basanti  and some newcomer(dont even know his name) in the role of jai what could one expect from this  movie

I definetly dont think he is overrated.. he has directed a lot of great films in the last 15 years.. but not sure how to explain his movies the last few years.. movies like Naach, Shiva remake and Aag.. Although Nishabdh flopped I thought it was a decent movie with a great performance by Bachchan.. so maybe he has not completely lost it.. Im pretty sure Sarkar -2 would get him back in circulation.. Maybe its arrogance and over confidence.. He used to make one movie every 2 years before and always used great music directors his first few movies had music by Ilayaraja, RD Burman, MM Kreem and AR Rahman.. he uses some random music directors these days.. His choice of heroines is also very bad.. Antara Mali and Nisha Kothari are not very talented.. not that Urmila was a great actress but much better than these actresses.. The trailers that were out for Aag looked really amateurish and hence no excitement at all....hopefully the failure of his last few movies will get back to earth..

Nisha - I dont agree RGV is overrated. Movies like koun are spell bounding and possibly in india only RGV can make movies like  it - though it bombed at the box office :) ! Shiva, Company, Sarkar are great too !

Deepak - I surely think that sarkar 2 would get him back to the forefront. I saw AAG yesterday - I couldnt believe RGV can make this trash. How could he be so amateurish, so lame! I am a big fan of RGV, and this movie made me sad ! how could RGV screw up so big time ! 

I was excited to see this movie when they announced it.. a total commercial potboiler with Bachchan directed by RGV.. but the promos were terrible and after reading some reviews (especially rajeev masand's was funny. he said he wanted to wringe RGV's neck and then he threw an egg at the camera) i didnt watch it.. also the songs were bad.. sometimes I feel since Bachchan and RGV are so close that they made this terrible movie to blow up some black money...

* blowing up black money sounds like a good reason for making movie!

* Someone in the theatre commented - its the best spoof of sholay ! :) so right. 

I remember actor SAchin had made a series of spoofs in the mid 90s.. the spoof he made on Sholay was called "Chole" at the end of that show he showed a few deleted scenes from the original SHolay which included his death scene which was pretty gruesome and the censors had objected to that scene.. so they showed gabbar killing him symbolically using that ant which Gabbar crushes in his hands.. talking of censors, seems that they had really screwed the original SHolay where they objected to Sanjeev Kumar killing Gabbar SIngh at the end of the movie since he was an ex-cop.. thats y Gabbar was handed over to the police in the end of the movie..

Also do you remember that movie - Ramgarh ke SHolay.. which had Amjad Khan again as Gabbar getting out of prison and coming back to Ramgarh. that movie had the dupes of Dev Anand , BAchchan and ANil Kapoor as heroes..

i think one more reason for his downfall (or so it seems, look i am still optimistic :-) is his choice of actors and actresses... urmila >> antara >> nisha ~ zia... i had read about the *zing thing* of rgv with his actresses, now looks like his focus is only on it... male actors include mohit ahlawat and this new guy is pathetic... taking ajay devgan as veeru who has tinge of comedy was a bad choice... he takes fardeen khan also occassionally... and to worsen things he is wasting a living legend called big b... i think he is taking accessibility of big b too casually and wasting his talent and our money and time :-)...

the rumor Ive heard as to y he takes a lot of bad actors like fardeen, tushar and mohit is bcoz those guys give him money and fund the movies.. the reason for taking bad actresses is obvious ;-)

deepak i agree with u  maybe he was a bit overconfident this time so made this horrible flick

@deepak - i had the impression other way round... he tries to take not so high priced actors but once they become pricey or show tantrums they are shown the door... the manoj bajpai-rgv fallout was such a case... i think saif wud also have been high priced after hits like hum-tum etal... same for boman... not sure of nana but he is supposed to be hot-headed... another such fallout was between rgv and aamir, aamir was a "hot-headed in making" at the time of rangeela... i think bachhan/ ajay might be much more modest and well behaved... ajay has been rajkumar santoshi's blue eyed boy as well for quite some time now...

incidentally, rgv factory is coming up with another movie, "darling" - promos suggest that only fardeen can see esha deol who is a ghost... and esha is all out to destroy fardeen's life... i think the storyline is pretty interesting but i wud have loved urmila in place of esha and perhaps saif in place of fardeen... fardeen and esha have a hopeless history together as well as their individual careers have been pathetic as well... 

@dinrat - have a strong feeling fardeen financed Darling and his other RGV flick - Jungle.. RGV had a falling out with Bajpai because he didnt pay him his salary.. dont think Saif had a falling out RGV coz I heard about them collaborating to produce movies before RGV signed this huge deal with ANil AMbani and now he sems to be making movies with the Bachchan family exclusively..

Mohit no doubt financed James and SHiva.. Tushar and his sister must have financed Gayab..

 DOesnt matter if he gives bad actors to the industry as long as he also keeps introducing good actors like Bajpai, Rajpal Yadav, Sushant SIngh and other theatre actors he introduced in Sarkar..

I never thought RGV would make a movie wich is very silly stuff.....

he being such a brilliant director who gave a super hit movies like company, sathya, rangeela, Ek haseena thi, bhoot, sarkar in these movies he has done a brilliant job..... never expected that he would make AAG such silly with very weak story line, no dialogues, no weight in the movie except the Visual effects and the cinemautography, bakhi sab bakwaas hai.

Nisha kothai is worst with over acting, and sushmita is very artificial with much make up on her face she looks like a babe more than a widwa. Mohanlal acting is good, amitabh is ok......

Its the biggest flop of the year...

using f words I think is pretty common in the interviews with filmstars. ONly a few magazines reproduce the interview verbatim. I remember reading an interview of SRK using a lot of cuss words on the tehalka website

well i personally like his movie not all i reaii liked company and sum other movies he made i lookin forwrod to darling looks very intersecting.some new maybe lol.

i dont like rgv movies the only movie as nisha said was rangeela which was good that too becoz of aamir khan's performance  after rangeela he has made n number of flop movies like daud,jungle road  james and more recently nishabd and now rgv ki aag look at the way he has made aag wonder why amitabh is doing this kind of roles

well ther is was a time when i dint missed single muve of his.. now not even by mistake i watch any rgv muve... its been completed disgraced now

With sarkar raj he has redeemed himself. Heard that its a good movie! .. you rock RGV ...
