Re: Why do we copy so many Hollywood themes?
I dont think it is a problem when the film-makers start out remaking a film and acknowledge that to the press and public. Like Farhan Akthar (Don), RGV (Sholay, Sarkar) and Himeshbhai (Karz). But there are some filmmakers who blatantly copy films and claim credit for story and screenplay. David Dhawan is an example. When a journalist asked him recently what he thought of Sony planning to sue the makers of Partner for ripping off "Hitch", he said there was no way the case would materialize because they would have to sue 100s of filmakers then.. I also remember the early 90s when Anand-Milind (who were brilliant in QSQT and other movies early in their career) started blatantly copying Ilayaraja (O Priya Priya, Dhak Dhak are a few examples). I dont think we have ever had stringent copyright laws in India. We target Hindi movies because they are popular all over the country, but this problem exists in movies made in all Indian languages.
