Namitha Kapoor has ruled the South film industry as the glamour queen for many years. After a small hiatus, the sizzler is all set to strike back in Tollywood with her upcoming release Midatha. Namitha was born on May 10, 1981 as the only child of a Punjabi family settled in Surat, Gujarat. Her father is a textile businessman, and her mother is a housewife.

Namitha first came into the spotlight in 1998, when she won the title of Miss Surat.

In 2001, she participated in the Miss India beauty pageant, and became the fourth runner-up. Actress Celina Jaitely was the winner of the pageant.

She later appeared in various TV commercials for brands like Himani, Arun Ice Cream, Manikchand and Nile Herbal Shampoo.

Namitha started her film career in 2002 with a Telugu movie called Sontham, opposite Aryan Rajesh. Later, she acted opposite Venkatesh in Gemini, which was a remake of the Tamil movie of the same name.

In 2003, although she acted in Oka Raju, Oka Rani, and Oka Radha Iddaru Krishna Pelli, the movies did not do well at the box office.

Namitha was known by the screen name Bhairavi in her first two Telugu movies.

Namitha’s big break came when director Siddique cast her opposite Vijayakanth in the 2004 Tamil hit Engal Anna. The film was the remake of the director’s Malayalam film Chronic Bachelor (2003).

In 2005, Namitha was seen opposite Sarath Kumar in Aai, which was an average grosser, and in Chanakya, which was a commercial success.

In the subsequent years, she was part of several hits in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, including Kovai Brothers, Azhagiya Tamil Magan and Billa.

In 2006, she made her Bollywood debut with Love Ke Chakkar Mein, which was a flop. Next year, she did an English movie called Maya, directed by Eric Manning.

In 2009, Namitha starred in the Telugu remake of Billa. She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award, for her portrayal of ‘Lisa’.

The following year, she made her Mollywood debut with Black Stallion, in which she was cast opposite Kalabhavan Mani and Bala.

There was a kidnap attempt at her, in Trichy, on October 26, 2010. She had been there for a function in Karur. A fan, posing as the driver arranged by the organisers of the event, sped away with the actress. The real driver informed the organisers, and the police chased down the speeding car.

Namitha is a graduate in English Literature. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Gujarati and a little bit of Telugu.

Namitha is trained in Karate, and also enjoys dancing and playing badminton.

Namitha is a skilled swimmer, and used to be a swimming instructor for kids, before she started her acting career.

Namitha likes reading, shopping, and travelling. Sidney Sheldon is her favourite author.

The actress, who had been away from the limelight for some time now, is gearing up for a second innings with the upcoming Telugu film Midatha.
