This is not a movie, but a discussiona and a comment :-) So, this a movie which you should watch, if you are a theatre enthusiast. You must watch it, if Dance is your passion. It is a treat to watch, if you are a Madhuri Fan (need not be a dia-hard one). It is also a reason to watch, if you have any nostalgia for your sweet home town. With so many positive viewership reasons attached to this movie, I Liked it. Since "aaha!" has already descirbed the storyline, I'll spend more time on the essence of it. I felt as if, Madhuri Dixit never took a break from movies. She can still be rated as the best Actress, she still has that elegance in her dance which can drive you to move your legs. Her smile still is contagious and lively. This movie is just not a story, it is a reminder to our small towns who are following the Metropolitans and to the Metros who are following New York.....We still have so much in our culture to nurture and preserve and exploit than to follow all which is called modern and hep..... The small towns of india and the people still have the underlying vein which carries our very own culture ....but 'sleeping'... Probably we need to wake up to this level.....Some people are already on track... |

Disclaimer: I have personal interest in Madhuri since her 1,2,3 days and my childhood. Still I will try to be fair. Salient features: - Madhuri
- Her smile
- Her dance
- Music
- No fight
This movie is amongst the not-usual-boy-meets-girl-and-opposed-by-bad-guy-story. String of current bollywood movies gives a impression that "Bollywood" is ready to experiment with subtle subjects, Aaja Naachle surely one of them. Location were picturesque, realistic and well utilized. The movie boasts big actors, but most of them didn't get enough space and roles, which they deserve. I thinks thats good part as no clutter was added to the story in the name of giving-justice-to-big guys. Music is good, soothing and fits perfectly into the story. Before this I found songs exactly fitting the story were HAHK and HDDCS. Dialogues were mostly in the vernacular and filled with subtle humor. All dance sequences are good, musical drama which is main theme of the movie is was a bit of drag for around 10-15 mins. Movie is smooth moving and certainly watch-able. |

Beware Aishwarya, Kareena, Rani etc etc, Madhuri is back and she is here to stay. Thos movie has everything for a Madhuri fan. Million Dollar smile, amazing dance, brilliant acting. Worth watching once if you are not a madhuri fan, and for Madhuri fans this is a must watch. The story is okish, with decent performances by everybody. Akshay Khanna suited in the role of Raja Sahab, but basically this film is about Madhuri's comeback so you get lots of madhuri smile, dances and acting by her. Otherwise the film has a lot of bollywood cliches, and you can predict the other move. Konkana Sen Sharma is lively and the movie has some decnt comic scenes as well. The final dance Drama play is well shot specially the lights and cinematography. Overall rating: 4/5 |

When walt whitman said" I celebrate myself and sing myself " he never thought 100 years after the great diva of bollywood follow the same sentiment with the help of jaideep saini. The movie is a reinvogirating effort of Mad to flaunt her skill as a dancer period. The story line is very passable and charaters are usual gang of opposites, to appeal to class and mass. I am really having some scrothing hot questions for Mad,, the why, what, how are killing me, an ardent fan of this talented dancer. Who is her stylist, for god sake. Such unglamorus clothes except that lehnga, Dirty brown colour hairs........and lousy story. What happened to saini? Was madhuri so desparate? She could have waited for movie like black or provoked or something like that.... I am hyperventilating..the dances are good and makes movie entertaing.Champagne is without bubbles . Exotic and expensive but not so appealing. |

One of the most recent (claimed)musical I saw is Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, and my reaction was, we can not make good musicals. The same thought has changed now after watching Aja Nachle. All the filmmakers (who want to make a musical) in bollywood should watch this film and learn. This movie is different. The entire story moves forward with the help of song and dance. Madhuri Dixit could never have got a better comeback film. The entire film revolves around her and she carries it off well.
Ajanta theater is being demolished in two months and Dia (Madhuri) takes the responsibility of saving it, because the place is a symbol of art in the city and she has some of her very fond memories attached to it. She decides to do so by awaking the actor/dancer buried inside the people of the town. And she decides to do so by doing a play on Laila-Majnu at Ajanta. The entire story revolves around Dia's effort to convince people to act/dance in her musical, train them and finally putting up a show beyond imagination. For once we get to see one MP, who is not corrupt and thinks about doing, what people want. The characters in the movie are much real than shown in many films. The cast of the play Laila-Majnu consists of a local gunda (Kunal Kapoor), a restaurant owner (Ranveer Shorey), a government servant (Vinay Pathak), an irritating girl (Konkana Sen Sharma), a stock broker and few other (I should not reveal those here).
The movie is a musical, so the music has to be good. Dance sequences are very well choreographed. Thanks to Jaideep Sahani, he does it again. The script is different from traditional musicals and it's good. All the actors have done justice with their roles with special mention to Madhuri for the brilliant comeback. The movie is clearly one of the best musicals made in bollywood recently. The only sad part was the empty theater. When would Indian audience learn to appreciate a good movie. I would rate this one as 8 out of 10 and would recommend it to anyone who likes to watch movies. |

first things first :-), movie is watchable once, the story is bit predicatble and cliche in parts but the ROI is madhuri's smile, awesome dance and the perfect expressions to match every step... good performances by the cast and good music... now over to dissection :-)... the movie is about madhuri who is a choreograhper in Newyork and doing well... she gets a call from her home town that her dance teacher is dying, she rushes back and in the flashback we get to see a glimpse of her life 11 years back and what made her go to america... by the time she reaches des her teacher is dead but he leaves a message that she has to save the ajanta theater from getting destroyed as there are plans to build shopping mall over there... now she has to save it by showing a musical with artists from her hometown... remaining story is about how she finds cast for her musical, the rehearsal sessions and finally the musical... movie is a bit slow to start with, initial 30-45 mins are rather okay but it catches up afterwards... all the actors have decent character to play and have done justice to it... notable are konkana, vinay, ranveer, kunal kapoor, sushmita mukherjee (kitty)... there are 2 surprises also (and they manage to steal the show as well)... and off course madhuri!... i felt that the dance teacher of madhuri had scope for improvement in his acting as well as dialogues, i could not get emotional :-)... the movie has its lighter moments which are enjoyable, music is good, the last musical show is also pretty good... overall good watch... |
