Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

The much awaited Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week scheduled for 24- 28th Oct at Pragati Maiden has taken its first step towards making it a extravagant affair by organizing  its female model auditions on Oct 5th in the capital. With each passing season, the Indian fashion runway is witnessing an increased number of Firang models and this season will be no different, at least this is what can be predicted from the scores of foreign models we saw at the audition. Theses gorgeous faces from west were not only confident but also gave the best poses to shutterbugs. Judging all the contestants were, reputed names of the fashion industry like designer Anjana Bhargava, Namrata Joshipura and Rahul Khanna Fashion Choreographers - Aparna Bahl and Senior Model – Laxmi Rana. The esteemed jury members short-listed 13 future muses out of 48 for several attributes, such as their confidence, poise, sense of carriage and perfect attitude. Promoting and encouraging new talent is one of the key objectives of the FDCI. Models are important stakeholders of the Indian fashion industry and therefore the model auditions are an essential medium for selecting exceptional talent who would walk the ramp at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week for the first time. The jury was looking for fresh faces to launch on the runway of WIFW as part of their commitment to provide a platform for new talent.

When asked what she felt about the quality of the new recruits and what they could adhere to as a winning formula, Namrata Joshipura answered What we have seen in terms of models  this time is immensely better than the last two season. Mostly all the models have done some modeling assignments so it not at all difficult to judge them. But yes, when you have a pool of models then you have to select within a similar range in terms of height, face, attitude, and walk.

Anjana Bhargava agreed with Namrata she added I have taken into consideration that the models height and body had to be closest to perfect, and she had to have a nice walk. When we look for ramp, the body language has to be perfect and in sync with the clothes, it should exude that persona on the ramp so all these factors have been kept in mind while selecting the models.

One of the contestants who was seen all excited to face the judges shared I always wanted to be a part of this glamorous industry and what would be a better opportunity then walking on WIFW. I am here to give the perfect shot and rest depends on judges, how they like it. Atul Chand, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC's Lifestyle Retailing Business Divison summarized by saying The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is a great platform to recognize and nurture emerging talent. It gives us great pleasure to see the enthusiastic response to the model auditions with fresh talent drawn from across the country. I am sure the new faces discovered during the auditions will go places. Beauty Tips for Women

Show I of Day 2 began with Elan by Priti Bansal & Kaushik Ghosh and Samars Designs by Pankaj Kumar & Ajit Parihar. For beauty tips & Lakme Fashion Week, Both collections were fresh and innovative and in shades of greens and browns. While Elan had a very slick look to all its ensembles be it the colours of the garments, the cuts and silhouettes used. Koushik Ghosh of the Elan duo is a pass out of Apparel Trading and Design Creative Center- Kolkata where he won the best designer award in his final year. He has been designing costumes for renowned film directors Rakha Dutta, Putool Mohamad and Rajnish Kashyap since then till Elan happened. For them this is the first time they have been to Bangalore and the complex southern market. In search of expanding their customer database they are still awaiting positive conversions from causal buyer queries post the show. They used constructive patterns, pleats, embroidery as medium on fabrics like georgette, chiffon and talosilk. Next in line were Delhi based duo Pankaj and Ajit presented a slick line inspired by tribal art. Beads, embroidery and patchwork was what stood out in their creations. Both the collections received a positive and appreciative response from the little audience that was present. As Koushik Ghosh aptly said, Its very good to be in Bangalore Fashion Week and actually showing…wish their was more of an audience to appreciate the show. The day certainly seems to be green. Young designers Bhakthi Reddy and Kaira Gurnani ruled the day. Beautifully put together they could easily give the senior designers a run for their money. Bhakthi put forth a contemporary collection which included shifts, jumpsuits, skirts, gowns and dresses in green, orange and golden. A striking merger of rich brocade silk with soft georgettes in contrasting colours though the predominant colour was a vibrant shade of green. The kurt is were teamed with hand painted churidaars or skirts with intricate patchwork. A fresh look on the face was accessorized with just a brocade tassel woven around the pony tail the clothes took center stage as the models showed off the gorgeous collection. The next in line was Kaira Gurnani who presented the sixth sense of a woman and tuned in to the inner goddess in every woman to bring out an excellent collection.  Green, orange and golden ruled the ramp with a splatter of reds and yellows on the side. The dresses were pretty and completely girly…as it was meant to be for the woman confident about herself. Cute bows, ruffle details, soft tassels and pleats were elements that added the girly touch to each one of the garments. Her collection included shifts, dresses, golden jumpsuits, ponchos and a lot of layered dresses. Titled Bold and the Bollywood Mumbai based designer presented her Bridal collection at Blender’s Pride BFW today. The highlight of the show was Koena Mitra who walked the ramp as a beautifully dressed Indian bride after two years as a showstopper in Bangalore. We caught up with both the designer and the actor after the show. So why did you decide to do this? Koena: I have a very western image so this was an opportunity for me to explore my Indian side. It felt beautiful to be dressed as a bride even if it was for five minutes. Plus the dress itself was so beautiful that it did not need an overdose of jewels to add to it. In a lot of ways this is what the modern Indian bride would look for in a bridal dress. I loved the antique work done on the dress. End of the day you want to make only one statement with an ensemble. Too many statements end up making a no statement at all. After all you spend so much on your dress wouldn’t you want to highlight it without looking like a Christmas tree.  And Koena to me represented the perfect epitome of my muse hence I decided to ask her to do this.

A fast pace movie with a good script

It's another presentation of Sanjay Gupta of dark crime movies after Kaante,Musafir and Zinda, but this time not delivered it perfectly the movie pace is very fast with your brain ticking at every moment but loses it's momentum in between and there is loosely bound script. The action scenes are excellent by Tinu Verma and the music track is awesoma as always.Performances of all actors are ok with no one got extra attention. In all a good storyline wasted with a bad script.

ACID FACTORY : An ok thriller with again all borrowed stuff.
Oct 10, 2009

Author: Bobby sing Compliment the user
Overall Rating

Sanjay Gupta has been associated with a big list of inspired films in the past and his “Acid Factory” too follows the same trend fearlessly. Directed by Suparn Verma the film heavily borrows most of its content from the English thriller “Unknown” released in 2006. With more legal remakes in the scene I hope the makers have acquired the rights of this adaptation, since it has scene to scene to similarities with the original.

The movie as a whole is an ok thriller for the Indian viewers who may not have seen masterpieces such as “Saw” series” & “Cube”. But for an avid movie lover who is well familiar with this intense, psychological, brain twister thriller genre of the west, “Acid Factory” is just a rehash version of the Original, accompanied by some un-required stunts and usual Indian elements. In fact the deliberately added flavors to suit the Indian audiences take away the essence of an otherwise well directed but inspired attempt from White Feather Films.

It starts in an abandoned factory, where five men wake up from an unconscious state with a zero memory about their names and origin. Suspecting each other for their current state, they have a mutual conflict, trying to know the real truth about themselves and the others. The first half only deals with their small fights along with a few glimpses of their individual past. But it’s the second half which has a better grip, unfolding the real mystery behind the game played by all. The movie builds up slowly raising your expectations for an explosive climax which sadly remains unfulfilled. The concluding moments in the script are not that convincing as they should have been to end up a tense psycho thriller.

Performance wise everyone is just there with nothing exceptional delivered by any particular actor. The most talented among the star-cast is Irfan Khan who is simply wasted in the few scenes he gets. Diya Mirza, who was majorly used for the Net publicity campaign is hardly there in the movie (she enters after the intermission). And it was nice to see “Neha” back on screen after a long time. Cinematography is first rate with Sanjay Gupta’s favorite green tone on the screen. But the lavishly shot actions scenes and the few songs were completely out of the place and were not needed at all.

In few words, “Acid Factory” is a borrowed movie from the director Suparn Verma. It can be given a chance by those who haven’t seen the original western flicks and love this intense, brain twister genre of movies where the hidden truth gets revealed in the climax.

Frankly speaking, it’s really tough to write about a movie which straight away starts with a completely inspired scene where even the location, ambience and characters are purely an imitation of the original. It simply takes away the joy of watching a movie. In other words it’s like watching a painting in a gallery, signed by an artist who hasn’t painted it at all.

Rating : 2 / 5 (If it’s an official remake of the Original) and

0 / 5
(If it’s an unauthorized imitation)

Acid Factory - A must watch

Hey everyone's found this really different review on mouthshut , which really gives a great light on Acid Factory , personally I loved the movie and suggest , everyone must go check it out this weekend. Laughing

Take a look @ this too.

So you are bored of mushy mushy love stories? The sweet nothings, and typical boy meets girl and falls in love?

How about an edge of the seat thriller that doesn’t let you bat an eye lid?

Acid Factory is not your average trying to be from Yash Raj banner film, where hero is all too good to be true and heroines are doing their best to hold their flying sarees or dresses. This is bollywood come of age in an action genre.

Shot entirely (or mostly) in South Africa, the movie begins with Fardeen, Dino, Manoj Bajpai, Aftab and Danny locked in a prohibited factory area, all with a memory loss (thanks to the Gas leak), all trying to find their past, while the gang leader Kaizer is on his way.Surprised

What ensues is absolutely brilliant. Sharing any bit of story will be a complete injustice to the film, as it is impossible to start defining the various threads and complications of the character, but what can be described is how beautifully these complications, distrust and search is brought alive on the screen.

Performances are brilliant. Everyone in Kaizer’s (played by Irfaan Khan) gang deserve pat on the back for delivering one of the better performances given in any action movie. And Irfaan Khan deserves more than a pat, he deserves an award, which I am sure he’d get.

Suparn Verma has definitely taken a leaf or two out of Gupta’s book, well, let’s say movies. The pace of the movie never slacks, never would you reach I-know-what’s-gonna-happen-next point.

You’d hold your piss, you’d forget sipping at your Pepsi with multiple ice cubes, or slurping extra cheesy pop corns, you wouldn’t notice the couple two seats down kissing every five minutes,Kiss  in fact you’d care to put your phone on silent and watch this film.

You would WATCH this film, like you haven’t watched any recent film.

 Cool

I stepped into the hall with a fair amount of trepidition, but came out surprised. The film is not as bad as I thought it would be!

The story as you probably know, is about a bunch of guys who've lost their memory and have no idea who they are. Fardeen Khan, Aaftab Shivdasani, Dino Moreo, Manoj Bajpai, Danny Denzogpa and Dia Mirza are trapped in a huge desolated acid factory, which is what gives the film its name.

There's Irrfan Khan, who knows who's who; he keeps calling to find out if all's well in there. Of course he has no clue that there was a gas leak in the factory and all the people inside are suffering from temporary amnesia.

To tell you anything else about the story would mean giving out the hidden identities of the characters, so I'll move on to something else.

It is a typical Sanjay Gupta film, complete with lots of car chases, shooting et al. There are the regular stunts of jumping from a moving car into a truck, hanging off the back of a truck and shooting at the following cops, cars being blown up, bike race and so on. But even these regular stunts are performed so well that they look rather realistic.

The film is shot in South Africa. Though most of it was inside the supposed acid factory, the locales have been explored as well, and must say, very beautifully. The camera work is good, making the film look slick and stylish. If nothing else, the film is a visual treat, albeit a few glitches in the special effects department towards the end.

The actors were all decent. No exemplary performance to be honest, but none of them was bad either. Perhaps the lack of too many close ups was instrumental in keeping the audience fooled that the actors have the right expressions on their faces.

Coming to the story. The script by itself is fine. The screenplay is better. It could definitely have been more engrossing, because I could feel my attention wavering at times. It's not as gripping as a film of its genre should be. However, since the film's running time is 2 hours it didn't feel like it was too long. Though I do wish it were still crisper.

The soundtrack isn't great. But mercifully it isn't annoying either. The song "Khatti Meethi" is very reminiscent of "Maahi Ve" (Kaante), except that the latter is definitely better. In fact the whole film looks like an extension of Kaante; the colors, the camera work, are all too simliar, and I had a strong feeling of Deja Vu.

There was one very annoying factor in the film. English subtitles. All the dialogues and songs had them; whether that is a feature exclusive to PVR alone I wouldn't know. But it did take away some of the joy of film watching for sure.

I would say watch the film once. It may not be half as interesting as Ocean's Eleven, and there's no Brad Pitt in the film either; but it's a decent effort from Suparn Verma (Director), and it shouldn't go waste.
