Apne

Dharmendra is one of my favourite actors of all time. He is certainly my favourite Indian actor, and I even started a blog as a tribute to him. So you can imagine how excited I was at the prospect of 'Apne' - a film starring him and his sons Sunny and Bobby. I couldn't wait for it to come out, and having seen it, I am not disappointed at all. I loved every bit of the movie.

 'Apne' is the story of a man (played by Dharmendra), a former boxer, who feels he has unjustly lost his dreams. Disappointed, he longs to be vindicated through his sons. Unfortunately, his older son, Angad (played by Sunny Deol) will not, and his younger son, Karan (Bobby Deol) cannot, rise up to fulfil their father's dreams... until some fateful moments in which everything (and I mean everything) changes... and this is the story of 'Apne'.

The performances in this film all deserve applause. Dharmendra is in his element - his acting is absolutely wonderful. Kirron Kher, as his wife, also hands in an emotional, nuanced performance. Sunny is great - I really enjoyed his performance, and Bobby is really good as well. Victor Bannerjee is excellent and deserves special kudos. Shilpa Shetty and Katrina Kaif also do well (and look gorgeous). In fact, I find it really hard to criticise any of the performances in 'Apne'. Katrina could've done better with her acting and her Hindi, but I think this performance shows that she's developing as an actress and getting better with time. The best thing about the performances is that they are really natural, they flow so well, the emotion is always unforced and compelling (I guess the real-life relaitonship among the lead actors helped).

I'll admit that before seeing this movie, I was worried about the action (boxing) scenes - I thought that they might not be able to pull them off and make them look authentic. But I was wrong... the boxing scenes actually looked really good and realistic, and I would say the filmmakers did a very good job. The actors obviously did some training, and the make-up (blood etc) in the ring was quite convincing. Well done to the team.

Although I enjoyed this movie very, very much, I had some problems with the pacing of the plot (too fast in some parts, too slow in others), and felt it could've been tidier and better-paced. I also thought some of the sound effects were extreme and some of the sub-plots could have been pared down or left out. Some of the finishing felt rough, and a lot of the film was not very realistic, in my opinion. But all these are minor issues and did not detract from my overall enjoyment of this entertaining, moving film.

This film made me laugh, made me emotional, made me cheer - it reminded me of the best things in life (family, home, country) and it reminded me why I love Dharmendra so much. I would say 'Apne' has something for everyone - whether you like action, drama, romance or whatever - it has something for every movie fan.

Apne is a film of Dharmendar who was a former boxer and was charged for doping in America years ago.He wants his older son ,Sunny Deol to learn boxing to go to America and shine his name.But Sunny is not into boxing and becomes a rich businessman travelling all over.Shilpa Shetty plays his wife.

In comes Bobby Deol who is disabled.His arm does not work.But in an incident it starts working again and tells his father that he will make his dream, come true.Meanwhile Katrina Kaif plays Bobby's doctor and secretly his girlfriend.

But all is not easy as it seems......

Dharmendar has a good comeback and does well.Sunny Deol gives the film an emotional touch and Bobby Deol looks hot!Shilpa is wicked at playing a Punjabi housewife while Katrina Kaif looks pretty during the whole movie.

Apne is a likeable film but i dosent have a story line i thought looking at the trailers but i must say the songs are g8.

sunny and dharam are not talking coz dharam wanted sunny to become a boxer and after two years he stopped because he saw bigger thing by going in to the business side of the world.

in childhood bobby parlized one of he hands and then did'nt have enough money to give his hand treatment.

when dharam meets and old firend and get told there will be matches from all over the world and the willer would be world champ then dharam turns to a young person that has been bugging him to train him for boxing but dharam had said know,the young man agreed that he would take on the fights if dharam tranied him.

but when he was trained he left dharam to coach with another coach.......

you will just have to watch what happens next but i will tell you sunny and dharam talk agin and bobby get really ill and is hopitalized also dharams dream comes true.......................

Apne proved to be far more what i 'd imagined.The Movie is about shattered dreams of a father who never gives up Played by Dharam paji with such excellence that have yield him his one of the best performances of lifetime.Apne revolves around his shattered dreams of becoming of  india's first heavyweight champion,but he was banned for fifteen years for the false doping charges,the hurted and humiliated boxer(Dharam paji) took this as a challenge and determined  to produce a new world champion in form of his own son Sunny.

But after four years practice in vain ,Sunny decides to quit boxing for the good of his family,But Dad dharam does nt forgive him as his long cherished dream shatters again.Dharam paji live the hope again as he finds a new student(Aryan Vaidya) who is keen to learn boxing,Now Dharam who is living with his broken heart  charged himself and trained him.But one more time destiny cheats him as moves to Mumbai for an australian coatch and leaves Dharam in solitude,These happens and  Bobby,the younger son who is a singer and disabled with his left arm, finds his arm actually recovering.Bobby decides to put himself in dad's long cherished dreams (needless to say Dad is all set to train him)and gets going with few qualifying games with such an attitude that he impose himself to fight against the worlds champ Luca Gracia 'The Killing Machine'.

It happens again,Luca plays dirty in the final and Bobby sought life threatning injurydue to a cheat move by Luca.Bro Sunny despite of his father angst to him turns up to U.S. to meet his brother,and on an events gets challenge from Luca to fight with him to prove heimself,Sunny takes the challange against his father's wish,and trains himself and saves his father grace by serving him with the world champ tital.

No,not for a moment but these action packed events does not take the emotional moments away as its just the part of the emotional sequences thats the heart of the story.

 at the end  Dharam Paji decides to end his life as his younger son who was batteling with death due to an liver injury,as doctors refuses to perform operation on dad Dharam due to age factor,and dad finds himself responsible for the accident and wants to save his sons life,Fortunately Doctors finds a donor and the saga ends on happy note.

Performancewise i ve mentiones earlier also that movie belongs to Dad Dharam Paji who played the complex character of a father,a husband a disgraced player by destiny and a man of Honour with perfection(new competetion for Big B).The Emotional bond B/w the treo Deols is very well created by the director Anil Sharma.Full credit to him as i've never imagine from the director of 'Tehlka' brand director

Other actors were given the grace of acting when its needed.Sunny's acted well as neglected son and as hurted brother and son who decides to hit the bulls eye. 

Bobby as a younger son has done justice to his role.Mom Kiron Kherr is amazing as always. Gurls had nothing much to do but they have made their presence felt.

Victor bainerjee as Dharams friend make u feel that one should have such person for life to support in hard times.

Over all the movie revolves u with and at times u feel ur eyes moist with the emotions .

A Must Watch for every moviegoer.

apne, its a story about a boxer (dharmendra) who was humiliated and banned from boxing for 15 yrs after he was falsely charged of doping... he was about to become the world champion in boxing, which was his long cherished dream - to see an indian at top spot... he had two sons, sunny who was national champion of boxing but he left boxing to earn living for the family... younger one bobby had an accident in childhood and his left hand does not work... dhamendra is too hurt to forgive his elder son for letting him down and not going for world championship in boxing... whenever he sees sunny he is cold and bitter towards him... now after 15-20 yrs, some championship is going on and he gets a chance to coach an upcoming boxer (aryan vaid)... he is again hurt when aryan cheats him and joins another coach... events so happen that bobby's left hand gets going and he decides to bring back his father's pride... in the final he is up against the luca gracia (name reminds me of luca brasi from godfather) where luca wins by cheating... now its upto sunny to take revenge for his brother and father...

boxing is not the focus of the movie, its story of a hurt man, his relation with his two sons... 3 jats have played their part very well... dharam-sunny relation is good, so is sunny-bobby one... kiron kher is very good, shilpa is decent, katrina is okay... music is strictly okay... the movie is emotional at large but its not filmy or artificial (you can almost cry with the characters at times :-)... one downside i can see is some bloody action, if families can watch it they my prediction is that it will be a hit with masses... the other downside being that heroes are indeed heroes in this movie, anil sharma with all 3 deols, what else could you expect? but its not over the board... overall a clean movie but the action might keep the families away :-)...
