It’s official now. These lads and lasses who acted in the film can’t make you laugh. They have been trying different things on screen and failed miserably, except for, may be Rajpal Yadav, Chunkey Pandey or Javed Jaffrey. Alas! Even they struggle to make you laugh here. The idea behind ‘Daddy Cool’ was great – the remake of critically acclaimed British comedy film ‘Death at a Funeral’ but something went wrong. It could be that repetitive comedy is not funny, rather boring. More so, if those trying to remake a comedy are not talented enough.
Those who have watched ‘Death at a Funeral’ know the line-up… 'Daddy Cool' is the plot for plot copy. Steven Lazarus (Sunil Shetty) arranges a funeral at his plush villa in Goa on his father Douglas’ (Sharat Saxena) death. But Steven’s decent, quiet funeral plan collapses with guests’ flooding in one by one. Some paisa vasool respites are when Rampal Yadav manages to create humour with the gay lover twist to the story. A chaotic funeral with psychosomatic friends and relatives follows the rest of the story.
Actresses in the film, be it Aarti Chhabria, Tulip Joshi, Kim Sharma or sexy Sophie Choudhury none of them seems to have taken even a class in acting. Ashish Choudhury tries to survive on his last fame ‘Dhamaal’. The other three reputed funny men, Rajpal, Chunkey and Javed’s effort went wasted considering the rest of the cast.
The music is a big disappointment – its both the remix tracks are sad to say the least. Young music composer Raghav Sanchar who had earlier given music to films like ‘Kabul Express’ and ‘Sunday’ didn’t deliver anything extraordinary. Director K Murali Mohan Rao seems to be well-versed only with romantic flicks, his comedy bit didn’t work!
This Daddy is so un cool that we have almost rephrased its tagline ‘Don’t join the fun-Surreal’. It’s like they say remakes are best on mute, this one is best left unwatched.
