dev d is one hell of a movie.....in spite of its length, the movie doesn't bore you. Fuelled by out of the world soudtracks and splendid perfomance by Abhay Deol along with both the female leads, the movie is a must watch. i give ten on ten.

Into the first half every thing seems to be working quite nicely. Kashyap refuses to submit to conventions, with the kind of intrepidity he re-conceives the characters in a contemporary set up and captures the mindset of the prototypal generation Y, the generation that is torn between tradition and modernity, exuberance and temerity, deserve a pat on the back. Ever seen a female protagonist rolling up the mattress in her bicycle and heading to a Sugar cane field so that she could make love with her partner and satisfies her burning carnal desire?! And then venting out her frustration on a hand pump after being demeaned by her boyfriend for giving him a Fellatio! Or the scene where she goes to on to hurt the ego of her childhood lover(Dev) by saying her husband is better than him on bed?! Bravo! “Paro”( “Mahi Gill” makes an impressive debut) in Kashyap’s Devdas is an woman with self respect who has no problem with her pronounced sexuality but at the same time not willing to submit herself to any sort of male chauvinism and hypocrisy in the name of love.
The non-linear narration dictated by songs (Amit Trivedi has done a tremendous job), top notch cinematography intoxicating us with the visuals in the bucolic Punjab to the dark underbelly of Delhi seem to blend everything together. With things completely satisfying in the first half, You don’t complain but once “Dev” played with conviction and believability by “Abhay Deol” opts the path of self-destruction, sadomasochism, finds solace in the cocoon of a prostitute(commercial sex worker as they call it in the film) “Lenny”( “Kalki Koechlin” despite her part being the most interesting and well stretched out one fails to bring any conviction to the character because of the poor dialogue delivery and deadpan expression), the film cuts lose, starts to give to indulgence and a sense of uneasiness kicks in and leaves you in a state of disappointment at the end, disappointment in the sense what could have been a great piece of cinema and a thoroughly engaging watch ends up as just being a good film.
