DEV d Atyachar

Its just an Atyachar.... i expected a much better movie from Anurag Kashyap. Atleast some thing near to DEVdas http://pehchan.wordpress.com/2009/03/21/dev-d-atyachar/ Is it true that modern Devdas is not looking for love?

Letts see how's Gulaa. Hven't seen yet but reviews are good.

When i heard that Dev D got 5 stars.... i was shocked in a happy way because now i wanted to see the movie... But now that i've seen it.... OMG!! It definetly does not deserve 5 stars.... i mean hello!! THE DARK KNIGHT.... even that got 4 nd a half stars... i mean story is more or less same as Devdas, 3 hrs long!! and all those who liked the movie either relate to it or have to be as high as Abhay in the movie... But this is my point of view... But u have to agree that the movie is getting either a gr8 review or a very bad 1.... Finally i would say, if u r really free, i mean "really" free even then u can avoid it... Watch it only if u r curious, like me...

Its better than devdas

According to me "DEV D" tells us that how to make a boring script, presentable and interesting one too. Anurag, the director of the movie, had shown us his excellence in "black friday" and believe me he doesn't disappoint this time too. Its completely anurag's perception on sarat chandra chatterjee's story with many and good ammendments. With the unnoissyy and sausy music, the way in which characters are introduced is applausible. The camera work is excellent. The role of CHANDA played by newcomer kalki is very graceful in begining but gradually decraeses towards the end, PARO played by newcomer maahi is impressive but scene stealer dev played by abhay deol has done an award winning performance, the chunni character is funny and written wonderfully. I will not deny the slow pace of the movie in the second part in which the self destruction of dev is stretched like an elastic but that too is the demand of the script that can't be edited. so I will give 3 out of 5, a good rating for anurag's dev d. A must watch drama.

Modern Devdas with classic ending

Watched DevD movie today .I think Anurag has done a gr8 job this time .Characters are casted in  a way that no one could have imagined and what makes it different than other devdas  is its superb ending .If you think you have already watched older versions of devdas and well aware of the story still go and watch because movie got all the twist that you will definitley forget the older versions  .Movie is lengthy but the ending pays all the effort .

Movie got many songs and i think all of them suits the situation very well and the iconic emotional attayachar is superb .Role played by chandra mukhi definitely overshadows the Paro but still our Dev in whole movie drinks alot (Nothing Different ).I think smirnoff got new brand ambassador this time.

Must watch from my side .

How to praise this Deol., He is too good.I ve seen all of his movies so far,and this one is the best so far.He has acted brilliantly.Though very unconventional but he has prooved himself as a true actor which is so rare to be seen in bollywood. He is not into flashy things like a toned body or designer cloths but he is here to stay and to make a mark  and deliever a meaningfull cinema. This movie itself a millestone,in every aspect.Be it a depiction of its characters., Narration, and teh music and background scores. It suits the bill in all categories.Music is completely outstanding.,from imotional Atyachaar to Pardesi.

The fusion of classial wid rock and Desi Band baaja wid jazz is totally outstanding.Hats off to first time music director Amit trivedi for his out of the box performance.

The story of the movie is the same as it was supposed to be as it is in banglaws etc.,

Rigfht now i m feeling so sleepy and its hard for me to keep my eyes open

So good night friends.I ll Add up more bout the film later on,Bye

This movie is nothing like Devdas. This movie is rubbish,  but it is not so bad. The movie is dark. Anurag Kashyap does try to give out a message, but this movie makes Devdas look bad. In Kashyap's DEV D, Dev is into drugs and vodka. Paro sends her nude pic to Dev via email and later, wants Dev to have sex with her in the fields. Chanda, a hooker, indulges in phone sex mainly. Clearly, Kashyap's Dev, Paro and Chanda are audacious and rebellious.

Son of a rich industrialist, who is sent away to London when he was 12, Dev [Abhay Deol] returns to his hometown and to Paro [Mahi Gill], his childhood sweetheart. Inseparable as they seem, a misunderstanding puts their lives in a tizzy; Paro is married off to someone else and Dev goes into severe depression. Not one to take on responsibilities for his acts, Dev digs deep into drugs and alcohol for salvation. He stays away from home, but his finances still come from a doting father.
Lenny [Kalki] likes to live her life on the edge -- a rich student with a penchant for adventure. After a devastating MMS scandal, she's abandoned by her family and is forced into isolation. As a runaway, she finds shelter with Chunni, a pimp. With great determination and inner strength she adopts an alter ego -- Chanda. As Chanda, she gets to be a high profile escort by night, while Lenny remains a college student by day. At this juncture, Dev enters her life…

Despite the fact that you know the basic plotline of DEV D even before the reels begin to unfold, what you're keen to know is, how has Kashyap executed the subject? The sequences between Dev and Paro at the start are captivating and the volatile relationship they share makes you realize that Kashyap is on the right track. Note the altercation between Dev and Paro, which prompts Paro to marry Bhuvan, who's much older to her, besides being a father of two.

Amit Trivedi's music sounds good to the ears. 'Emosanal Attyachaar' is already popular, besides a couple of other songs ['Nayan Tarse' and 'Pardesi']. But there're too many songs in the narrative. Rajeev Ravi's cinematography captures the rustic look of North India well.
Abhay Deol is natural. Mahi is decent, while Kalki shows sparks in a few scenes only. The balance cast, including the actor playing Chunni, are strictly okay. I give credit to Kalki though, she tried!

AK took Devdas to the next level

First things first, Anurag Kashyap has taken Dev Das to the next level. Yes this is definitely Devdas of the modern times. Whatever flaws were there in the original story of Devdas has been removed! I guess a lot of people know about the story, so not describing that here.

AK has shown the ego of Dev is a classic way, but then too the good part of the movie is that Paro also has a self respect, she does love Dev, but has an ego as well. The calssic example of this fact was the scene when Paro meets Dev in a hotel, Dev keeps telling her "Galti ho gayi" "I still love you" and in the end of the scene the way she shows Dev his "aukat". And immediately after this scene the director captures her pain very well while she is walking away from him. The two real life incidents incorporated in the movie is the DPPS MMS scandal, and the BMW hit and run cas. the director has done justice to both the incidents, the trauma after it, and how just one incident can spoil your life forever!

The scenes that I really loved, which spoke a thousand words:

1) The scene when Paro wipes her tears and decides to move on...

2) The scene when Dev hugs Chanda and tells her "beta its ok"

3) When Paro shows the aukat of Dev, after her marriage to an older man.

4) when Dev's father dies, he visits back home, he just cries infront of his mom, this is the only time when Dev is seen crying, this is a scene which speaks a lot without a single dialogue. still cant relate to why people in theatre were cribbing over this scene, I think this is one of the best scenes in the entire movie.

5) The end of the movie!

Abhay Deol has done a fabulous job as Dev, Mahie Gill has done justice to the role, as a curious lover girl, who is finding places to make love to Dev!!! and then suddenly matures a lot after "moving on"

A must watch

My rating: 4 stars

DEV D - A classic by it?s own rights.

Director and writer Anurag Kashyap has done a brilliant job and the movie is more than just another remake of Devdas.

Besides some kickass dialogues, the movie also has some great music and visuals that go on to create just the right atmosphere – the open fields, the lacy mannequin filled boudoir of a prostitute or Dev’s stoned moments. It also brings in three men in suit who watch Dev’s destruction. The choreography of Pardesi and Emosanal Atyachaar is mind blowing.

For starters, Paro and Dev are Punjabis and their story is set in rural Punjab and Delhi as opposed to Bengalis.  Paro takes a backseat,  you see Dev for what he is and  Chanda gets her due.

Dev (Abhay Deol) is a regular spoilt brat having a good time in London while keeping in touch with his childhood friend Paro. He wants a look at her nude and she complies which is all the motivation he needs to ditch London for some making out back in India.

Paro (Mahi Gill) has no qualms about showing her wild sexuality as she cycles across fields with a mattress coz her love Dev wants to get laid rather bad. But when he tries to brand her with the scarlet letter, she calls a spade a spade and moves on.

The woman who steals the show is Chanda (Kalki Koetchlin) as her story unfolds from a precocious teen Lenny who turns into a pariah owing to a MMS scandal (ring a bell?) and then turns to prostitution and drugs as Chanda. Her character has it’s quirks like a compulsive juggling and origami.

Dev spirals out of control on drugs and booze till he meets the pimp Chunni who gets him more booze, drugs and Chanda.

His chemistry with Chanda from their exchange of repartees in her boudoir to sharing their woes with each other is one of the best parts of the movie. Like when she tells him her story while painting a sad clown face or the scene in the sauna where he gives her a much needed hug and tells her it is okay.

Our boy still can’t think beyond Paro. He runs over some people in his BMW (ring a bell?) and daddy dies (read funds cut off), takes to looting payphones and narrowly misses death which suddenly does what even Chanda’s love couldn’t – gets him thinking straight.

And then the movie ends on a happy note....so cheers for those who love happy endings!
