I only watched this movie at first for John Abraham. It started out like every other inspirational movies. With silly yet endearing characters. and a rebel who comes in and saves the day. It was a really nice movie. Like most Bollywood movies, the en...(read more)ding was key. I just loved the way it ended. John's HOT! lol. it was an okay movie, but the actors did a pretty good job with a typical story line. I couldn't turn off the tv, even though I was really tired and sleepy. I just wanted to see how it'd end, though I knew Southall United was going to win, I just wanted to know how! and the thing abt John's nose being sensitive? Nice touch, I almost cried as I saw him get him all those times!!! John's Hot , even BlOODY!!lol. nice movie overall.

What do you think when a football team, which has not won any match in last 25 years, where average age of the team is 35; wins a tournament in UK and that too without any good training. The person coaching this team has no prior coaching experience and hasn't probably been to football field in last 25 years. I know what you must be thinking. What rubbish, that's absurd. Well that's what this movie is.
The movie is about a football club Southall United, which doesn't have any sponsor, any coach and they probably wont have any ground, if they don't win this year's football championship. Captain of the team Shan (Arshad Warsi) is the only decent footballer in the team (no other player in the team is able to hit the ball straight to goalpost). Coach of the team Tony Singh (Boman Irani) is running from his past, because he let his team down when they needed him most 25 years ago (Deja Vu, remember Kabir Khan from ChakDe India). According to coach the most important things to win the tournament are team jersey, team bus and a physiotherapist (what about football, coach?). The team is able to arrange for these three things somehow but loose first two games in the tournament. Now the coach realizes, they need a good striker. The coach select Sunny (John Abraham) for the job, who despite being the best is not selected in the Aston team because he is an Indian. No points for guessing what happens in the end.
I wonder how a film based on football can be so dull. The film is full of a lot many loopholes. Director hasn't bothered to develop any of the characters and that is probably the weakest point of the movie. Because of lack of character development, you don't seem connected to the characters. This disconnect lead to disinterest. The relationship between John and his father is awkward. The way coach tries to bring Shan and Sunny together is very lame and there are some enforced emotional scenes. I think Vivek should have waited for sometime and should have watched ChakDe before starting this film. There isn't much to talk about acting, except the actor playing Shan's wife none of them are impressive. John, Bipasha, Arshad and Boman are strictly OK. All other are either confused or overacting. Fortunately there are only two songs in the movie. The direction is poor.
Overall the movie is not as good as it could have been. I would rate this as 4 out of 10.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal is a gr8 movie. It's not just about football, but also about our race and that we belong in the world equally as other races. John Abraham, Arshad Warshi, Bipasha Basu, Boman Irani and all the other actors acted brilliantly.
gr8 movie overall
go john abraham

First thing first, it was not a wholesome sports movie; it’s a kind of typical Hindi filmy movie, where you have lots of drama and less of substance. Even the movie revolves around the concept called "SPORTS", it never looks like it though. The screenplay has a big hole into it, it has too many characters in it unnecessarily, either no body bothers to define the characters or do not justify why they ware there.
It did not have any nail biting finishing as a typical sports movie should have. It was quite predictable, I admit most of the sports move is predictable but the approach of the movie should create an excitement and curiosity about the next moment (Like Jo jeeta wohi sikandar, Iqbal, recently Chak De.).
Coming to the characters I am a big fan of Arshad, but it was disappointing to see him in this movie, not because of his acting skill but because of the plot and its presentation. I could not find out what Bips.. was doing out there in the movie? John and Boman both acted well. But the major problem was its screenplay. The movie does not hold you tightly as there are too many stories playing simultaneously.
But the Movie certainly deserves some point, as it’s a sports movie and not many similar movies are been made in Bollywood. And some scenes are really good and inspiring, like the one inside the dressing room and preach by Boman.
So its 2 out of 5 for Me, For its genuine effort and poor execution.

i can bet the momoent u come out of the movie u'll be discussing GOAL and the itss hockey counterpart CHAk DE in tandom, only if u have watched CHAK DE too, and thats what will go against this movie... we have all seen it in chk de, the same story of rising from the muds and goin on to win a super-championship, even the coach-saga was common in both the flicks... REPETITION, is that what u call it.. yes.. a poor one at that, too. so does that means we rub it off?... well, that wont be justified-justice! movie is well made, good decent direction, some fine performances by john and arshad and company, over-acted by bipasha but acceptable, the movie do make u shout every time humari scores a goal and cheer them up, just like in chak de.. GOAL just cant escape comparison, and it will be called average movie only because recently we all have had a similar-much-better experience with chak de.. so hard luck for GOAL. but just keep it away from comparison, and u'll find the movie was worth a watch or two, hands down.
just a case of bad timing i say.. success of chak de overshadowed GOAL!!!
i liked the movie john is good

Movie was all about evolvement of a champion out of a normal person. Nice thought but without any energy in it.
The problem with the movie was nothing but the stock available to compare it with, as we have seen movies like Lagaan and Chak de, this movie doesnt stand even closer to them.
It is lacking that energy at each and every instance they were suppose to show it in abundance.
John has acted well as he has hardly spoke anything. Arshad was nice in his non comedy role ;-) Boman as usual is a good actor but as a football coach with a big tummy doesnt suits well, Bips was stunning as usual.
Overall movie is a good thought but presented in a boring way, It was missing those moments which really evolve a champion and definitely was lacking enthusiasm. So not worth spending.
Lame, incoherent, predictable story

Group of asians in UK (called "Pakis" by locals) nurtures dreams of doing big and winning football league for the Southall Football club (Football==soccer).
The story is usual, team is in bad shape, they find coach with a emotional burden of being part of losing side in his prime playing days and finally after facing million predictable toubles they manage to win the league.
CDI also had similar story but was carried by able shorders of SRK, dialogues, SRK's dialogue delivery and gripping story. This movie was not anywhere near that, Boman didn't do justice to the role of coach.
Arshad was always in sad mood, John was with his stern face. Only positive of this movie is Bipasha "Billo Chaman Bahar" Basu.
Music is good. Daler paaji have put life into the song. Picturization was below standard and edition was shady.
Pretty avoidable movie. Preferrably go for a long run and grab some beer in recluse.
