One can see that Nagesh Kukunoor has definitely matured as a director after movies like Iqbal and Dor. What makes Dor stand out from the movies currently being shown is its story ( although we still need to ascertain whether the story was original or copied from some other language movie...this is only a supposition looking at the trend in Bollywood for stealing stories..and by no means an offence to Kukunoor). On the acting front I would not give any of the actors much credit, even Shreyas could not show case his acting as all his role required was mimicary of legendary dialogues from old bollywood movies. If I compare Dor with Iqbal I would rate Iqbal much higher for both the story (cricket stories have a very high probability of connecting to the masses) and the acting done by Naseer ji, Shreyas's sister (don't know her name) and ofcourse Shreyas.
If anyone has watched the movie should have noticed one glaring mistake. This movie shows the courage shown bu Gul's character who decides to go ahead and search for a house in the entire Rajasthan with just the photograph of the person. This was based on the fact that the address for the person was incorrect in the passport and even the MFO did not have the correct address. In the movie if you remember the suitcase with the clothes and other belongings of the deceased had reached Ayesha before Gul had found out the correct address.....HOW was this possible????
All said and done this movie is definitely worth watching once as very rarely you come across such strong stories and mature direction.
