The movie overall is a good one, but is it not wrong to portray one community as the culprit. i don't deny the fact that what took place in gujrat was wrong but why are only hindus to blame. it seems that the muslims were not at fault. in the riots both the communities lost their lives. such one sided biasness should be stopped and we need to strive forward for the overall development of the country and try n forget the past
This is really a must watch. I always wanted to watch this one as I knew the issue as well as about the director, i.e. Nandita Das. I really admire her. She has done a really fabulous job here by not just giving a good movie but spent a lot of valuable time on selecting the cast.
Talking about the movie this is for everyone, dont bother where you are hindu or muslim, its a must for everyone. What happened in Gujarat it cant and never be forgiven, because it was done in cold blood. But what follows is the life, how it turns out to be for everyone and how they handle it, with the scars still fresh left behind the carnage. Everyone has done a great deal to convey the message and it always seems like this is the way it must have happened sometime in the past. Nandita das is too good.
This is something off the track. I still remember when I went to watch this movie, standing outside of theatre near one of the posters. Then comes a muslim couple and they are just cheking out which movie it is this week. Seeing them the theatre manager talks to the man and says "Ye movie aapke liye nahin hai, waise to movie acchi hai." and the man replies "Haan, pata hai newspaper mein padha hai". But I strongly recommend this is for everyone who wants to experience the "Indian Holocaust". When I say The Holocaust I am not speaking about the statistics but the hatred and ferocity with which it was carried out. There seems to be no explanation to it except those who did it dont know the value of life or they dont care.
it has becum a trend to show hindus as the reason for all religious disputes..
at this time..wen things seemed to have normalized ..people like the great director of this so called fantastic movie adds fuel to fire by doing the same....bravo nandita das...n people like them r called learned n they claim to bring social reforms....
Firaaq is the directorial debut of eminent Indian actress Nandita Das, which deals with the impact of
violence on human psyche and relationships. Firaaq has been selected in the Contemporary World Cinema Premiere slot.
Nandita Das had shown her charisma at TIFF several times, last year her two films witnessed at TIFF ? Santosh Sivan?s
?Before the Rains? and Adoor Gopalkrishnan?s ?Nallu Penangal? and both were highly acclaimed,
but this year she is excited as her directorial debut will be premiered at TIFF.

The movie begins with a fantastic start hitting the emotions hard and make you touch 2002, however as the movie goes on it looses its dept to connect the viewers to the suffering of people. The movie shows the muslims as victims and Hindu's as culprit instead of showing that irrespective who ever was the culprit the common man suffered. The movie has a brilliant cast and they acted as usual amazingly however the short movies had weak links and didnt bring the dept out. Over all dissapointed with the direction. Nandita Das should stick to acting and not story writing or direction.
