Honest and diligent Police Inspector Indrajeet's (Amitabh Bachchan) life takes a turn for the worse, when he must arrest Din Dayal (Saeed Jaffrey), who is the father of Shanti (Jaya Pradha), the girl he loves and intends to marry, thus souring their relationship, when she openly defends her father, and as a result Indrajeet is transferred, and Din Dayal's arrest is overturned.
