Jannat is the story of a man caught in a quagmire of crime and consumerism as he struggles to find heaven on earth. Arjun is a reckless young man with an obsession for making money at card games. A chance meeting with a girl in a mall, Zoya gives him the reasons he was looking for to move out of his ordinary life. He steps up from playing small-time card games to becoming a bookie. Stuck in a triangle of sorts between the woman he loves and his addiction to make a quick buck, Arjun moves on from being a bookie to a runner for the mafia. He steps into the world of match fixing. Arjun switches on the limelight to bigger, better, faster, more, until his dizzying rise attracts the attention of the police. Arjun has to now choose between the love of his life, Zoya, and this new found success and power. As Arjun struggles to choose between the two, the Don offers the forbidden apple of limitless wealth in exchange of his soul and draws him into his core entourage of money spinners. How far will the horizon of reality stretch as Arjun and Zoya tread a fine, fast-blurring line between right and wrong to find the heaven they have been looking for? |

I m huge cricket fan & was equally shocked when in 1998 I heard big cricket names involved in throwing matches . Names who were worshipped like God . Suprisingly no Hindi movie has ever tried to make a film out of this issue , which is one every cricket loving Indian ( which are quite a few in number ) could relate to . so its no surprise that it is the controversial Bahtts who have made a film Jannat on it . Bhatts are the boldest producers of the all as they have always invested in newcomers & have produced some of the best talents – Anurag Basu , Kangana Ranaut , Kunal khemu , Mohit Suri , etc that exist in films . they also follow the formula with a twist added to it & make movies for a larger audience rather than only for multiplexes . Jaannat is exactly like that . Story of a compulsive liar & a gambler who wants fast money at any cost . he has a sixth sense in cricket which knows what will happen & Joins the betting bandwagon as a result . he makes a lot of money , but he wants more which he gets with the help of a don who encourages him to lure cricketers & throw matches . He does all this for his love . Yes the film is weaved through a love story which is quite normal & formulaic the man in the wrong path , the lady trying to rectify him – we have seen it hundred times . but what makes it different is CRICKET & BETTING SAGA . the bold dialuges help , so do some interesting pinpoints at some cricketers & cricketing tales including the black episode of Woolmer killing . this is what makes Jannat a superb & interesting watch . the climax is another highpoint as had the movie finished in any other way it would have doomed . Kunal deshmukh deserves full praise for his writing & execution & is someone to watch out for . The songs are superb too, something which is expected from the Bhatts & so are its placement in the movie as it never interferes in the narrative . The supporting cast esp Samir kocchar is brilliant . the new girl needs to sharpen up her acting but is beautiful & can show some cleavage . but what holds Jannat in even its average moments in Emraan Hashmi who has given a superb performance in a film completely on his shoulders . he is restrained & natural . not once is their an inch of overacting . you feel for the character because of his convincing performance . cinematography is good & neat something On the whole Jannat is a superb watch & makes u think wether cricket is really still a gentle mans game |

Hey you al the Filmy Fanatics………UD’s back. and guess what???/.Back with BANG, BANG, ………..Two Movie Reviews at the same time……Not sooooo Heavenly…(Jannnat).., MINUS 123….(123)…….So sit back and enjoy the most carefully and critically written Reviews…. Jannat……..Hmmm in 3 words I would describe it as “ NOT SOOOOO HEAVENLY” ….why?......well the reasons are as follows…. Story : The simplest formula of making it in Bollywood anytime is combining Cricket with Movies. The Basic idea of the movie was very strong in context of Bookie Problems as none in the industry has shown this much on the celluloid before. But I think they could have shown a bit more than this as the subject is too sensitive as it has made loose us many kore great cricketers in the recent past… So..all in all a good story to start with.. Direction: Kunal Deshmukh’s attempt of Handling already a good story with the actors with almost no knowledge of Acting was very brave and quite successful too. He has not let down Mr. Mahesh Bhatt for sure. Although he failed in making the Debutant Actress Sonal Chauhan act.. Well but it is acceptable considering her Debut movie. Cast Performance : Emraaan Hashmi stole the show with one of his best performances ever till date. Yet he seemed very weak in his dialogue delivery considering the dialogues he was offered. Sonal as I said failed to make an impact. Samir and Vishal played their parts efficiently … Javed also showed some promise. All in all , they all performed okay. Music : For Me the USP of the movie was it’s Magnificent Music. Pritam Rocks….Kamran Ahmed’S legendry song “Judaaai” just makes it amply clear that he truly deserves a place in Bollywood. Pritam reminded of his Melodious Music in Gangster.. “Zara si dil me jagah”.. and “Haan tu hai” were among the other ear cathchers. Beautifully composed and very well picturised songs. Technicals : Screenplay seemed very weak in tendoms. Cinemotagraphy oF Manoj Soni matched the class of international class. Sound Rerecording was a bit immature. Background Score was okay as only one or two tunes were running all the times…other factors were pretty okay. So, the marketing strategy of Mahesh Bhatt to make a movie in a budget wchich falls insufficieant if you sign a star like SRK or AAMIR Khan and make it really cheap for distributers and hence collect enough money to make it average or a hit in this MULTIPLEX culture in India. For me, The Jannat was not So Heavenly… UD… |

Well the story is not about cricket. Its not about Emraans hashmi's kissing image.....its his acting skills and the story which the movie is all about. Of late Emraan has proved himself to be developin as an actor and a good one too. The story is about Arjun(Emran) who dreams big like any young kid on the block. But what makes him stand out is his desire to achieve what he wants. He feels he only needs a queen to come into his life and everythin will fall in place. Enter the Heroine Zoya. She is a call centre executive. Emraan falls head over heals fo her and knows that she is his queen. She also falls in love with him and they start living together. With her presence in his lyf he keeps progressing and starts earning big time. But his eyes are on something big. The sky is the limit. He is noticed by a don as a bookie and starts earning big time and moves to South Africa. Thats where he starts making his Jannat. But like they say nothing comes easy. He never says about his business to Zoya and when she realizes that he is fixing games for an underwolrd don who is funding terrorism she gets Arjun caught by the police so that he would turn into a new leaf. When he comes out of jail he tries his best to turn into a new leaf but like it was said by Javed shaikh( the don) "is business main incoming hain outgoing nahi" . Thats when the story moves very quickly and ebefore you know the movie is over. The movie is a good attempt. The story line is not the conventional bollywood movie. It potrays that in this world one will have to have a dark side to earn money and be successful. But where the movie scores the most is the emotional quotient. I must say the love story was very well woven with the cricket. The scenes of Emraan fiixing games are well executed but at the end of it the viewer feels that there should have been a few more of them. Its an out and out Emraan Hashmi's movie and yes he is maturing from single theatre audience ka hero to multiplex audience ka actor. I cannot imagine any other actor potraying this role. For the heroine sonal, she has done a fair job. Credit must be given to the Bhatts that they have unearthed a good director and given Emraan hashmi another good script (Gangster was another one). THey have had a good number of hits in the recent past and I am sure this movie will also be counted as one of them. It might not be the blockbuster which bollywood is waiting for but this movie is going to stay with you for a long long time |

Film: 'Jannat'; Cast: Emran Hashmi, Sonal Chauhan, Samir Kochar, Javed Shaikh, Vishal Malhotra; Director: Kunal Deshmukh; Ratings: *** More, more, more...The motto of motorised materialism seems to have overtaken contemporary life. Everyone wants the good things in life in the shortest time possible. The acquisitive spirit has seldom been defined with such economy of storytelling as in 'Jannat'. Not surprisingly, a lot of Mahesh Bhatt's latest exposition on the excesses of materialism is shot in shopping malls, expensive restaurants and posh stadiums where money flows like unadulterated honey. And when our hero sees the love of his life staring at a diamond ring he walks into the showroom and breaks the display window. Get what you want by force and forget those homilies that papa preached at the dinner table about the virtues of honesty. 'Honest money means hard work and little reward,' says a wry character in 'Jannat'. He's obviously not read Ayn Rand. Sanjay Masoom's scathing dialogues scamper across the film's lush skyline to create a language of wannabes who would stop at nothing to get that new villa on the Gold Coast. Let's then applaud one more moral fable from Bhatt's sensible stable. 'Jannat' tells us to waste not, want 'nought'...By all means covet the zeroes on that pay cheque. But don't forget that if you run after the zeroes your life ends up in the zero zone. Forty years ago in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Satyakam' Dharmendra had refused to succumb to all the temptations of materialism that were strewn in his path to salvation. Lying dying of cancer, he's asked by his wife: 'Finally what do you have to say about your life of integrity?' 'I've lived,' Dharmendra says at the end of 'Satyakam'. Can Emran Hashmi (playing the small-time wheeler dealer who turns into a cricket match-fixer, criminal and moral transgressor) turn around before his gruesome death to say he has lived? Yes, Arjun (Emran) has loved. At heart 'Jannat' is a dark tragic love story. While the girl's innocence and the man's corruptible countenance resembles 'Kalyug', the whole dilemma of the beloved being instrumental in destroying the criminal hero echoes 'Gangster'. Both 'Kalyug' and 'Gangster' were superior in content and treatment. Debutant director Kunal Deshmukh cannot escape the cliches on existentialism that have come to surround Bhatt's cinema...the morally conflicted Shakespeare-meets-James Hadley Chase hero, the independent-minded strong and value-based heroine, the hero's trusted and loyal friend(Purab Kohli in 'Woh Lamhe', Shaad Randhawa in 'Awaarapan', and now Vishal Malhotra), the ideologue father whose principles are held up to ridicule until the hero discovers the hard way that dad's remedies are the best to deal with ethical ambivalence. These lingering leitmotifs get a renewed, if not luminous, life in every Bhatt production. But 'Jannat' lacks the resonance and staying power of some of Bhatt's earlier films about crime and punishment from 'Naam' to 'Gangster'. Cleverly and cautiously Deshmukh's film brings in the cricket element, which has audiences ignoring the pitfalls of rejuvenating Bhatt's age-old iconoclasm. The stock footage of real-life cricket matches are used well and sparingly in the plot. The stress, as ever in Bhatt's saga of our stressful times, is on the clashing colliding crisscross of human relationships. Emran's father's sequence in his son's luxurious bathroom where he comments on the basket of soaps is a whammer. But the wheeling dealing in the greenroom and clubs with cricketers of indeterminate nationality behaving like debauched goblins smacks of amteurishness. The murder of the Australian coach turns the Bob Woolmer scandal into a climactic add-on. May his soul rest in peace. But what stays is the protagonist's passion for money as opposed to his love for Zoya(Sonal Chauhan). The end-game where the engagement ring is juxtaposed against the gun is arresting in more ways than one. While Emran interprets the over-reaching get-rich-quick schemer's part with a native cunning, one misses that suave and smooth transitions in the character that perhaps a Naseeruddin Shah or even a Shahid Kapoor would bring on the table. But Emran is charming enough to let the protagonist's journey from a chawl to Cape Town look interesting. He's constantly getting author-backed roles of the angst-ridden social outcast (a garage-sale version of Amitabh Bachchan) which he plays with a fair amount of sensitivity. Debutant Sonal has much more to do than be the decorative doll she seems equipped to be. She's the weakest link in the powerplay where the politics of the playing field is extended to an engrossing exposition of greed atonement. Some of the supporting cast, especially Jawed Shaikh as the cricketing don and Abhimanyu as his silent henchman, come to grips with their characters better than you would expect in a film that has scant space for anyone except the man who would be king. Actor Emran Hashmi, who has been taking tips from bookies for his latest film, was apparently asked to leave as they considered him unlucky as India lost the final one-day cricket match against England a couple of days ago. As part of the preparation for Jannat, a film which takes a scathing look at match-fixing, first-time director Kunal Deshmukh Emran have been taking frequent rounds of the haunts favoured by the bookies in the city. Emran and Kunal had been observing the body language and terminology commonly used by bookies during the match, which India went on to loose and this prompted the bookies to disown their new students as they considered them unlucky. The bookies started getting superstitous when Sachin Tendulkar got out quickly followed by Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh. The bookies wrath is believed to have turned on Kunal and Emraan and they were shown the door. The two followed suit without creating any scene. The film, to be produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, revolves around the underbelly of Indian cricket. The sub-plot also explores the Bob Woolmer murder mystery. Emran plays the protagonist who gets entangled in a match-fixing racket. The film is expected to hit the floors on September 18. |

How far will the horizon of reality stretch as Arjun and Zoya tread a fine, fast-blurring line between right and wrong to find the heaven they have been looking for ? |

Mahesh Bhatt camp new film Jannat is a brilliant film in sense of story telling. Debutant Director Kunal Deshmukh is brilliant, Mahesh Bhatt really gives new comer a brilliant chance and Kunal Deshmukh dosen't dissapoint at all. Story & Screenplay by Kunal & Vishesh is brilliant. Plot of the film is brilliant main theme is a love story & Cricket in the background is brilliant. New Comer Sonal Chouaan Is average.Life line of the movie is Emraan & Jaaved Topnotch performance, Pritam music is superb. The Story is never been told in previous cricket based films. Its better to watch the film as i am not going to reveal the story as it is something special. Please watch this one its a Powerful Film, and yes Bob Woolmer Look A Like was brilliant. See this movie for a never been told story. Money wise totall Paisa Vasool |

Imran Hashmi & Mukesh Bhatt combination always gave us movies show casing the darker side of life. All their movie names have a negative touch usually (Eg., Footpath, Murder, Gangster, Kalyug, Zeher, The Killer, Awarapan..). Considering these, the movie name 'Jannat' is a welcome change, though even this movie handles a similar subject. Mukesh Bhatt declared that Imran Hashmi will reach the top league of actors with this movie. But the movie gives a different experience. There is only entry into the world of crimes and no exit. This theme we have seen in movies several times. The nature of crimes will vary but the movie theme always will remain the same. This movie too has nothing new to offer except that the crime involved is cricket match fixing. But that is hardly enough for a good watch.
