There is a company who has hired more people than required. These employees can not be fired. So company decides to give them some work and does some projects without any reason, and any direct benefit. Well the company here I am talking about is YashRaj Films and projects are movies like TaRaRumPum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
The story is about Rikki Thukral (Abhishek Bacchan) and Alvira Khan (Priety Zinta). Both of them are waiting for a train at Birmingham station, which is running late. Both of them indulge into a conversation and it turns out that they are already engaged and are waiting for their fiance, who are coming from the same train. You don't have to be a genius to guess the climax of the movie. We guessed it even before interval. Whole climax scene is shot in a dance sequence, which has been choreographed well by Vaibhavi Merchant. Last scene of the movie hasn't been written well.
Abhishek Bacchan is the only saving grace for the film, you feel good when he is there on screen. Lara Dutta does nothing except for looking beautiful. Well finally Priety Zinta has managed to remove her Veer Zara make up and looking much younger than her previous films, but in acting department she should have put a lot more effort. Bobby Deol is bad as always, but manage to make you laugh at a couple of occasions. There is Amitabh Bacchan also in the movie. What is he doing there? Well, it seems wo Birmingham station me, ajeeb se kapde pahan ke, hindi gaane gake bheekh mangate hain. So now we know that such beggars are not seen only in Indian trains and platform. He doesn't really have anything to do in the movie, except irritating you by singing the title track again and again. Will someone please tell me, why is he torturing us.
Story could have been a lot more better (well contrary to popular belief, there is a story in the film). Who has designed Abhishek Bacchan's costumes, Govinda ne bhi kabhi aise kapde nahi pahne. It suits the character BTW. Shaad Ali's Direction is good, but he couldn't do much with the loose screenplay. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Lay is not one of their best, they are capable of doing a lot better.
To our moviegoers I would like to say, if you are going for this movie, don't leave the cinema hall in interval (believe me you will feel tempted to do so). Second half of the movie is a lot better than the first half, and Amitabh Bacchan appears only once in the second half.
Overall the movie is not that bad, but you have to watch it without any expecations (these should be very high because of the big names associated). I would rate it 5 out of 10.
PS: YRF, please do us a favour, if you don't have a good idea in mind, don't make a movie. Wait for a good idea, they will come definitely. |

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom Fantasy of the ‘common mass’ family members. About Heroine : The girl is Asian born but thanks to TV, films , Internet and other sources of visual information, she can see very well that the British (westerners) are fair and much more beautiful/handsome to look at – thus she longs to be like them – be one of them ! Thus as an innocent child of 6-7 years ,she even goes to the extent of going to the church and praying to lord Christ that she does not want a ‘Kala Kaluta’ (pathetically dark skinned) man as her life mate but someone as fair as him !! About Hero : He is some Ricky Thakral who is into the business of selling antique pieces to foreigners – as they are the only ones capable of giving a good price for the item.Since he is into Marketing and selling so he obviously is a smooth talker. Meeting Point : The Hero and Heroin meet at a Railway Station. The train was late by 2 hours so he decides to spend some time yakking with a pretty Lady who was sitting alone.he goes and sits in front of her and knowing that men are flirts , the heroin (Priety Zinta) quickly changes a ring to her ring finger and shows to him that she is engaged – so as to get rid of him. The hero (Abhishek Bachchan) also pretends to be engaged – although they both were single. Now they both start building up castles in the air – and each relate a false story of their imaginary fiancé …and this is what the movie is all about. Shows the fantasies of the common mass – what they think of and want they eventually land up with !and because what they imagine can never come true – they usually lead an absolutely sad & unhappy life ! The Hero makes a pretty looking (Lara Dutta) Hotel Manager fall for his charms – in his imagination of course and Priety makes a rich, good looking multi millionaire (Bobby Deol) fall for her ..thus showing that middle class and lower middle class family people only and always think of either how to be very rich without working hard or / and have the best looking partner to ‘hump’ for the rest of life ! The waiting period is over and both fall for each other instead !! She finds him utterly romantic and he finds her rather charming ! but harm has already been done as both think that the other one is already engaged. They now decide to meet again but now with their respective fiancés . Hero hires a Prostitute (Lara Dutta) to temporarily play the role of his fiancé and heroine hires a shopkeeper – a spectacle sales man (Bobby Deol) to play the role! Bobby Deol is a mama’s boy and belongs to a middle class family. Because he is good looking so all the Lady customers are seen flirting with him – kinda showing their twin assets by bending down etc. (amazing ..I didn’t know Indian females were so desperate for good looking men !! ..that they would flirt with a petty shop keeper as well….. to quench their sexual frenzy !) They train them and introduce them to each other. Guess what happens? – mama’s boy Bobby falls for the prostitute ! She keeps repeating that she is a whore but he still wants to have her as his wife !! Mama’s boy knew that all women were after all whorish natured (remember he had desperate housewives coming to him for eye check up?) – at least he found her to be genuine and not a hypocrite – she boldly proclaimed that she was a Prostitute – unlike desperate housewives who pretend to be wives but actually would readily undress for any mongrel at the bat of an eyelid !! Thus it is shown that his mother keeps calling him from behind but he waves her goodbye and goes away with the Prostitute…into oblivion ! Abhishek ties the knot with Priety. She declines the proposal of a well established working man for a petty antique salesman – a smooth operator and talker – living more or less hand to mouth on loans and befooling people……(deep sigh) women never learn – like camels eating thorns as staple diet !! |

Jhoom barbar jhoom is good movie. first it seems really really boring, but it becomes ok after. If u guys r thinking its a really long, u r wrong, its short, its just that the last song is long, not the movie. the movie is shorter than aashiq banaya aapne if there is no songs in this movie. Talking about the characters our junior B Abhishek bachan did well, Boby deol looks old i think this roll does not suit him, Priety zintas looks good with that new hair style, Lara dutta looks kinda fat, but sexy, i dont like with that weird short hair, when she was Anaida. Amithab does not have to do anything in this movie, but his dress looks cool. The storyline is pretty good, the songs r good, starring is amazing including amithab. For me i thnk this movie is GREAT. :) |

Saw it on the DVD. Well after the movie ended I found out that this would have ended in half an hour also, well there is nothing in the movies, except for jumping, Dance, some overacting by Lara and Preity, some random appearences by Amitabh Bachhan. And a wierd story line. I liked the previous movies by the same director, Bunty and Babli was entertaining if not great, but this movie sucks big time!! |

Jhoom barabar Jhoom is a typical bollywood movie - lots of stars, a cliched story with a little twist, tons of music. - the first half seems little boring .. at the start of the second half there is a little twise in story .. good twist, but it again become boring.. - abhishek has acted pretty well. he looks like that young punjabi guy. he is rikki thukral .. - amitabh is completely useless in the movie. dont know from where he comes , spits out stupid style , and then goes somewhere .. - lara is hot, preity is her usual self - old irritating woman :) - songs are good. but beware they are too many , and without context. |

I loved Sathiya. I liked Bunty & Bubbly, but Jhoom Barabar Jhoom sucks big time. After the first half I asked myself "what happened till now" and the shortest answer that came to my mind was "nothing". The story goes like this. Abhishek and Preety meet at railway station and spend couple of hours telling each other about their fiances. This part takes the first full half of the film. In the second half we are told that all the story that were shown in the first half were fictitious and these guys are in love. So one of them calls up the another and they go to a dance compition with their "cooked up fiances". After the dance competition that lasts about 20 minutes, the cooked up fiances start fancing each other and elope. And our couple also finds out that their perspective other half is not engaged and .... the end. This is one head aching film. Avoid even if you get free tickets. |
