okay, first thing is why do film makers have to choose an anti islamic topic,?. the film has portrayed islam in a negative aspect. Was'nt what is going on currently,in America after 9/11, the misconception of the religion already enough, that this movie had to come out and make all the wrong judgments about Islamic people, true. Why is that film makers have to use such topic to shake up reality. This is all part of making money. The truth and false have been mixed together!. And where in Islam it is said that music should be justified. It is totally haram as Our lord has said in the holy book " .... and INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC, silk, alcohol will become permissible...". Clearly if we follow shahria then music is forbidden. Why don't film makers look at other issues to shake things up. There are just toooooooooo many corruptions over Islam and by selling this movie doesn't help.Topics such us poverty, aids women and domestic issues....etc, are real issues that will promote better understanding and positive results. There are people who are feeling infuriated, those who are serious about their religion and by portraying false impression just adds fuel to the anger. I'm sorry I don't understand, what is the real logic behind this movie, what do the producer want to really show. I mean does he understand anything about Islam? This movie has given Americans a greater chance to mock at us Muslims. I know this movie will sell because it's a lie, a fantasy, story. And we all know good stories do sell. And this is just another well written story. And gosh the music sounds tooo enchanting, scary,. Especially bandeya. I am a bengali, although I don't hold any grudges against my fellow paki brothers and sisters my eye's fill up quick as soon as I remember about 1972 what they did to my country, may Allah bless all his muslims and curse the one that have evil intentions towards another. JOI BANGLA! PSS Proud to be a Bengali |

Khuda ke Liye is a movie which U wont be so interested to c at first Dont involve ne biggies 4m our own industry(except naseer perhaps). U wud think may be it would be just another serious kinda movie that gets appreciated at film festivals. But after cing it U will realize wat U were missing till date. After a long time atlast(leaving d exceptions like Chak De or TZP) dere came a movie that will make U ponder on d social and political problems and will force u to think about d burning issues of d world. Even hours after cing d film U will find Urself relieving d images in Ur mind and trembling with pent up emotions.
A powerpacked performance specially by Iman and Shaan. U will feel like puking in utter horror when U c d Americans ill-treating Shaan in jail purely on d basis of suspicion. A great performance along with some powerful dialogues. Watch Shaan as he says in utter hatred when asked about his relationship with Osama that" May be he is a Gay and He likes me."; or when on being asked by d ruthless American officer what he was being taught in Osama's camp he answered" To Fuck U".D dialogues which wud have sent u in splits otherwise wud leave U dumbstruck as u understand the horrifying situation. Shaan is superb sp in scenes when all dese take a toll on him and he changes d writings on d wall 4m I Love USA to I Love USAMA....
Given him a good competition is d Pak model turned actress Imaan. She is way to good in portraying a wronged daughter of a treacherous father as well as a wronged wife of a soft hearted yet fanatic Muslim guy who was also her cousin and much younger than her. D complete transformation from a bubbly, enthusiastic Western gal to a betrayed bride trapped in a place from where there is no escape, yet maintaing her strength, dignity and fighting till last moment, Imaan's performance was fabulous. Watch her when d steel strong woman prays to God 4 her to be born child" Please God please Let it be a Boy not a daughter!!!!"
Fawad khan who played Sharmad was also good. The softhearted ,confused, shy, introvert rockstar who turned into a fanatic Muslim by d words of a Maulavi that influenced him to such a extent that not only he took part in d conspiracy by Imaan's father but also forcefully married her. Not ending d things dere d guy who cudnot even dream of hurting a fly forcefully consummated his marriage with Imaan. D last part that showed him coming out of eternal confusion and realizing his mammoth fault was again too good.
Naseeruddin Shah again proved Why he is Always d Best and showed D world again how much his potentials has been underrated always. Present there for barely 5mins he actually stole the Film leaving all other bland in front of him. Dont miss him when he says in d courtroom "There is beard in religion, but no religion in beard" .Adding that "two men who did the greatest service to Islam in Pakistan, Mahomed Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal, did so without a beard and out of the so called Islamic dress code, in western dress." It was on this line that the entire hall filled with applause. Islam - the universal faith- has no uniform. This lays the stage for the final scene- the most poignant scene of the movie, filmed in Lahore's beautiful Wazir Khan Mosque.
But perhaps d actor who deserves a powerful standing ovation from the audience is Rasheed Naz who played Maulana Tahiri, the maulana who transformed Sharmad. A performance that wud make u hate him so much that U wud want to punch and spit on his face at dat very moment. A great villanous performance after a long long time.
D dialogues like d film itself is unbelievingly good. Keep Ur ears open specially when the treacherous father of Mariam leaves his wholly western bred daughter to a staunchly backward and fanatic border village of pakistan to live there for Life and citing reason for his inability to stay dere is " The toilet is not Clean". D scene will leave u agape.
Last but perhaps the greatest is d director.Shoaib Mansoor does not miss a beat, he does not leave any stones unturned. While all characters have more or less the same significance in this plot, it is Mansoor who is at the centre of it: Mansoor who is a proud Pakistani and secure in his Muslim identity, Mansoor who warns Sarmad against extremism, Mansoor who puts the best Muslim and Pakistani foot forward, Mansoor who is abducted by FBI in the middle of the night and beaten and tortured to a pulp, humiliated and abused for being a Pakistani and a Muslim. He is the contrast to Sher Shah and Maulana Taheri. But there are contrasts on the other side as well... Jenny who loves Mansoor for being Mansoor, his classmates who spontaneously join in when Mansoor performs his "music from Pakistan", his African American professor... all stand in contrast to the American torturers of Mansoor
Go c d film if U havenot already. Dont Miss it, ever. In d name of God this film will move u to core and will leave a deep impact on U, seriously................ |

Before watching this film, I used to think all Pakistani movies are like those B-grade Bhojpuri films, with names like Sasura Bada Paisa Wala. To be frank when I first heard the name of this movie, first dialogue that came to my mind was "Khuda kay liye mujhe chhod do," something similar to "Bhagwan ke liye mujhe chhod do" from our very own Hindi films. Then I read about the appreciation this movie has received all over the world. Nikhat Kazmi of Times of India has given this movie 4 stars and said "There have been a number of post 9/11 offerings from Hollywood, but it takes a Pakistani film to create the maximum impact". Though I am not a big fan of Mr. Kazmi but such strong statement about the movie made me watch this film. BTW, don't read too much between the lines, the movie is not about 9/11, it's much more than that. It's about how some fanatic Moulanas influence youths in the name of God and how people get effected by that.
Khuda ke Liye is a story of one family living in Lahore. Two brothers Mansoor and Sarmad, who love music and have an small band of their own. One day Sarmad's friend takes him to Mullah Tahiri and gets influenced by his views of Islam, which include quitting music, changing dress code, wearing beard etc. One day their uncle, who has been living in London for years and married a British come to Lahore to marry his daughter Maryam to one of the two. Reason, she was in love with a British boy and was ready to marry him. Sarmad, against the will of everyone else in the family takes Maryam to Afghanistan Border and marries her with the help of Moulana Tahiri and keeps her captive. Why, according to Moulana Tahiri, it's against Islam for a girl to marry outside the community. In the meanwhile Mansoor is in USA studying music, and falls in love with an American girl, who he later marries. Then 9/11 happens and everything changes in everyone's life. Mansoor has been arrested and tortured and Sarmad has unwillingly, influenced by Moulana's views joins Taliban. Everything changes. What follows then is an eye opener for all the orthodox, so called religious people.
The movie is made with good intentions and the director knows what he wants to show. He is always to the point, with no nonsense. All the three lead characters have been developed well and the transition in Sarmad's character is justified by his conversations with Mansoor and Moulana Tahiri. Everyone has played his part well. Music of the movie is top class. I would rate this movie 7 out of 10, go and watch it. |

AFAIK this is the first Pakistani Movie to be released in India. The movie was released in Pakistan in July 2007 and it topped the charts in Pakistan.
A word of caution : This movie is surely not for the folks who have the "Paisa Vasool" kinda attitude or who count the minutes of masala they watch on screen vs. the money they pay for watching it. This movie promises not to address gossip, masala, dance sequences or item numbers in any way. However, this movie is a GREAT watch for all the people who treasure the attempt of all people, who like to put forward issues faced by communities on the big screen.
Before we start with the review : Three Cheers to "Parzania" and "Black Friday".
The Plot of the movie focusses on the hardships faced by Muslims in United States post 911. The movie is slow, however, Director has made sure that the movie doesn't seem so once you start watching it. The story is split into 3 parts happening at the same time in 3 continents which are interlinked. The direction is very good and worth a praise. I do not know any actors personally however, the acting of Rasheed Naz (Moulana Tahiri) is worth mentioning. Shaan was fine too.
There are 1 0r 2 sensitive dialogues, which can hurt some sentiments of public, so better be cautious. The music is absolutely superb. The Pakistani singers and musicians are very talented and the music is a reconfirmation of my belief. Cinematography is comparable to a Hollywood movie. I would be biased if I compare this movie is any way to a Bollywood Flick, please don't mind.
The movie addresses several issues like : Islam, forbidden practices in Islam, Taliban and related nomenclature, modern Muslims and the cultural divide between the Fundamentalist and the Liberal Muslims.
I am sure, this movie doesn't promise any entertainment, but the effort to portray so many issues in such a nice fashion is worth applaud. DO NOT MISS THIS MOVIE . Its a fantastic watch !
There can't be a better way to portray such sensitive things with so much ease. The sound track will surely make your emotions flow. I still have one doubt : Whether Muslim people willingly choose the way they lead their life or whether they are the victim of the society and the traditions and the culture in Pakistan.
