Vetrivel (Vijay) is a fun-loving young man who takes care of his family in his father's, Singamuthu, (Manivannan) absence. Car racing and plumbing are his favourite hobby in the same order. He and his inseparable comrade Ops (Vivek) make a deadly duo. Their carefree life is disturbed when the house-owner asks Vetrivel's family to vacate the house. On enquiry, a shocked Vetri and viewers learn that Vetri owes Rs 50 lakhs to one of the good hearted villains who magnanimously gives one week time for repayment. What for Rs 50 lakhs was borrowed remains a secret to be solved by the viewers at their spare time after reaching home. Feeling quesy at the confusion and chaos, Vetri tries to unearth the devilish dealings of the don Kotcha (Suman) and the functioning of his entire network at Cuddapah and Malaysia. The name Kotcha really manages to catch the imagination of the audience and makes them wonder what it really means.
Finding that Kotcha is based in Malaysia, Vetrivel and Ops fly to Malaysia, as 'Kuruvi' (courier), the trade jargon for low-level contraband carriers. Again the viewers are left to ponder why somebody as talented as Vetri (car racing, plumbing, dancing, fighting, hacking to mention a few) takes the low-level courier job. Vetri steps into the group at a time when internal rivalry and problems are surfacing in Kotcha's family. Kotcha's darling sister Devi (Trisha Krishnan) has refused to marry the boy who was chosen by Kotcha. Irritated and preoccupied, nobody wants to devote any time or attention to resolve Vetrivel's problem of bounced cheques. Vetrivel is abused, harassed, suffers more ill-treatment and is thrown out of Kotcha's place without any help rendered. These callous actions enrage the young man. Vetri was first dejected but since Ops selected the rebellious path to find justice, he decides to be enraged, with a do-or-die attitude. Determined to return only after the issue is resolved to his satisfaction, Vetri decides to stay for the New years party to avenge for his family's sufferings.
Outside, the whole world is ready to welcome yet another New Year. Festivities and a feeling of happiness and anticipation envelop everybody. In a series of fast paced events, Vetri does the following,
1. Conceals himself in the mask of Zorro
2. Does a spiderman to break into Kotcha's home but manages to be be seen ONLY by Devi
3. Steals a diamond and Devi's heart simultaneously
4. Clinches a rope from nowhere and jumps from "n"th storeyed building along with Devi.
5.Devi falls into water and Vetri lands with perfect balance
6. Talks to his boss in India about where to meet in Chennai to deliver the goods. Devi manages to make a note of this address and assumes that as her hero's dwelling.
7. Runs to airport (or drives?) and chased by the omnipresent Kotcha & Co
8. Disguises (again) with a hat and scarf and has a small talk with Kotcha. Kotcha is unaware of whom he is talking to.
9. Scratches Kotcha's arm (or somewhere) without his knowledge so that he bleeds and hence wouldn't be allowed to enter into the aircraft even with a valid ticket.
10. Finds Devi in the same plane, gets the adjacent window seat.
11. Scares Devi who is on her maiden flight on what can go wrong while flying (Devi goes to India to find her hero in Chennai, a place where she had never been before. Here, viewers should assume that Devi is already in possession of a valid Indian visa).
The rest of the film is how Kuruvi goes to Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh and discovers a slave camp run by Kotcha and his associate Konda Reddy (Ashish Vidyarthi), at the collieries and also finds his long lost father. Kuruvi single handedly takes on the mining mafia and finally annihilates them. Often Kuruvi advertises himself by talking in general how good he is and how efficient he can be and about his bravery.
