If exaggeration is your middle name, please watch Life Partner. You’ll love it! But if you’re the kind that enjoys subtlety, give it a miss and you won’t regret your decision.
As the movie’s name suggests, it is all about life partners, albeit different kinds. This film, shot in Cape Town, traces the lives of 4 people, before and after they tie the knot, and how their lives change for the worse once they get married.
So, we have Karan (Fardeen Khan), a happy-go-lucky guy, his girlfriend Sanjana (Genelia D’Souza), daddy’s spoilt brat; if her hair-color had been golden, she could be nicknamed the dumb blonde of the film.
Then there is the “good” Gujju boy Bhavesh (Tusshar Kapoor), from a super conservative family, who wants to save himself and all his romance for his wife. The wife is played by Prachi (Prachi Desai), a small town girl, well- educated, independent and daughter of a filthy rich man.
And if the movie is about love and marriages, how can the harbinger of trouble be missing? So in comes a divorce lawyer, Jeet Oberoi, played by Govinda.
Bhavesh gets married to Prachi, the good, sweet Gujrati girl, his dad’s good friend’s daughter. She completely wins him over, but her broad-minded attitude doesn’t go down too well with his dad, and so all hell breaks loose after they get back from their honeymoon.
Sanjana and Karan get married too, but their love story is in the dumps as well. The girl offers no help with the household chores. He wakes up early every morning to clean and cook, goes to work, takes his wife partying, brings her home late in the night (she gets so sloshed every time that he has to physically carry her home).
While Bhavesh’s marriage is on the rocks due to an extremely strict father, Karan’s is because of a dim-witted and useless wife. Jeet swoops in to get them divorced at this point. Obviously, they resolve their differences at the end and come together once more.
The movie manages to generate a few laughs in the first half, owing to Sanjana’s virtue of being absolutely talentless. Whether it’s writing a novel, singing, or even painting, she is abysmally bad at them all and the funniest (if not irritating) thing about the situation is that she has no idea that she sucks so badly!
The worst part of the movie was the over the top characters, and Govinda’s loud comedy. The extremely rigid character portrayed by Bhavesh’s dad is not possible in today’s scenario. And a scatter brain like Sanjana can’t be real on this planet at least.
If the movie’s middle was bad, the end was the most pathetic. I will not give it away…watch it if you have the time to waste. If you’re wondering what about the film is “watchable”, well not much. There is no point in watching a film merely because the costumes are good (not great). It makes no sense to watch it when only 1 song of the lot is slightly hummable. And why watch a movie in which the star cast needs to take acting lessons? The choice is yours! |

Govinda, Genelia and Prachi make the movie a must-watch, if you want to laugh (if not your head out) this weekend. The best part of the movie is it doesn’t intend to teach you a lesson – but subtly says divorce is no child’s play either. It shows three different philosophies of marriages – love marriage, arranged marriage and no marrige.
Karan (Fardeen Khan) and Sanjana (Genelia) believe in love marriage, while Bhavesh (Tussar Kapoor) settles for an arrange marriage with Prachi (Prachi Desai). When both the couples are tired of their respective spouses, divorce lawyer Jeet helps them break their marriages. Sanjana is the dump, pampered and rich chick who proves to be a disastrous singer. While her husband Karan is hardworking and has a complete metrosexual approach. However, Fardeen as Karan doesn’t quite suit him as an actor, since hardwork needs dedication too!
For Bollywood’s new-found wife Prachi Desai, playing Gujrati bahu Prachi wasn’t tough – but with the K-serial tag behind, Prachi seldom looks carries the glamour of a film actress. Good son Bhavesh leaves the decision of finding his better half to his parents despite being born and raised a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Bhavesh’s life partner Prachi comes after the approval of his family, but realises that arranged marriages are not wonderful either.
Jeet’s only mission is to break marriages and has achieved a name as a divorce lawyer. He doesn’t believe in the institution of marriage himself and plays a womanizer. Writer-Director Rumi Jaffery undoubtedly strikes a good balance between morality and comedy, but couldn’t hide the fact that his script is inspired (copied) from Hollywood flick ‘Laws of Attraction’ for the Jeet part of it. Jeet, however, fails to look like the divorce lawyer ‘Laws of Attraction’ played by Pierce Brosnan – he peaches well on Niranjan Iyengar’s dialogues. We know Govinda’s comedy acts are a passé yet it continues to tickle your funny bone.

Life Partner is a story succesful love life and unsuccesful married life of two guys Karan (Fardeen) and Bhavesh (Tushar). Karan is a flamboyan, stylish and adventurous guy whereas Bhavesh is a typical gujju guy who wants to give his virginity as a gift to his wife. There is another friend called Jeet (Govinda) who is totaly against marriage and professionaly is a divorce lawyer. Karan and his love Sanjana (Genelia) were a great couple who loved each other very much. And Bhavesh meets Prachi (Prachi Desai) during his bride hunt in a small town of Gujra. Later both of the couple get married and problems starts to creep up due to situations which ends up with divorce. The story moves forward and eventualy Karan and Bhavesh realises their mistake and patch up with their wives. Written and directed by Ruma Jaffrey should realise that today audience are much more sensible and this kind of stories do not entertain them anymore. It seems Pritam has not given much of his time in making the music as his latest work before Life Partner, Love Aaj Kal songs topped the charts and still maintaing their positions. The story has nothing new in it and has been digested by audience many times in different ways. For me this is Fardeen Khan till date best performance in a comic role. Genelia performed wel but we would like to see her more as Aditi atleast for few more films as we loved her that way. Prachi arrives just before the interval and did not have too much to do as we expected from her after Rock On. Tushar has yet lot to learn about acting. Even though it is not a laugh riot but it has some comic punches which can make you laugh time to time. It has some good scenes which can make you laugh like silly romentic conversation between Bhavesh and Prachi over the phone. Presence of Govinda could not contribute to the movie as he has nothing new to do. The major setback of the movie is its story and its releasing date. Their dicision to release it along with Kaminey is a clear disaster. I would suggest to bring some dvds of classic bollywood comidies if you are dying to laugh this weekend. Otherwise if you are a die hard fan of any of the cast members you can go for it. |

Its high time now? I am shocked to see that director duo like Abbas Mastan has made this crime . Its very very disappointing thing that our film makers are struggling with the story till today and they are making fools to us. Friends i dont know what was there in the minds of Director Duo to become Producer? And if this is not sufficient then why they have approached Rumi Jaffery who dont know how to make films?(Remember God Tussi great Ho?). Now coming to the film which is totally a disister with poor performances. Govinda has to understand that his days are over better he should stop doing films and let his hot daughter should come in to bollywood.(Govinda Ab BUDDA ho gaya hai sala). Tushar Kapoor:Better go to his sister Ekta then do some TV serials and learn some acting skills then relaunch himself otherwise he should not dare to do any film. Fardeen khan:See your legendry father's old film learn some acting tips from those movies. Prachi Desai:better you do only TV serials ,Big screen is not fit for your so called tiny figure and dry and dull look(No figure no height Bull Sheet). Janelia:Better you do ads only dont do any movie. And finally advise to Abbas Mastanji:You are dynamic directors who has given us excellent movies . I request you to give us more thriller and excellent movies. For readers:I think i have told enough rest you decide. |

If we go through our golden era of black and white films before the 70s, then there are several movies featuring many big stars of that time, which are just nice and cool for a one time watch. They are neither a masterpiece nor could be considered as trash. “Life Partner” also falls in the same category, where you simply feel Ok after watching it and don’t mind your valuable time spent on it. In fact a particular section of the viewers may love it for the enjoyable act done by their favorite Virar Boy, Govinda.
The screenplay revolves around two young couples and their common lawyer friend who is known for his specialization in divorce cases. When both the married couples face rough times after their marriage, their lawyer friend offers them help and gets them rescued. The plot had a great scope of humor and entertainment for its viewers. But since it is used in a very restricted manner, the final outcome couldn’t result in a complete laugh riot. The movie has its own moments of comedy and preaching too. The director tries to explain the meaning of marriage and its tradition with a pinch of comedy, romance and family drama. So, all the three basic elements of an Indian movie are combined together by Rumi Jaffery in his second attempt, produced by the famous director duo Abbas Mastaan.
The movie can be clearly divided into two parts where the first half stresses on the comedy and romance element of the story and the second focuses on the post marriage conflicts and family drama. However, the director takes too much time to establish his three characters and their love stories in the first half which could have been easily shortened to a great extent. So, not much happens in the first part as far as the story goes, but you enjoy the scenes featuring Govinda as the Love Guru for both Tushaar & Fardeen. The second half is conceived keeping in mind the family audiences and talks about the common marital fights and disputes. Here, for a good amount of time, Govinda vanishes from the screen which in turn takes away the fun factor from the movie. But still you don’t mind watching a few well directed scenes close to the Ekta Kapoor serials seen at home especially the ones with Prachi Desai.
Performance wise Govinda excels over all the others, in the few scenes where he is back in his good old terrific form. I wish he had got more comic scenes to entertain his fans. Fardeen & Tushaar, are just fine playing their parts and its time they have to try something new in their respective careers. But it’s the ladies which score over their male counterpart this time. Genelia D’souza sizzles on the screen with her great dressing sense. Along with looking perfect she delivers a fine act as the annoying wife. Parchi Desai on the other hand proves her talent once again after “Rock-on”. She impresses as the true Indian wife trying her best to adjust with her in-laws. In the supporting cast, Vikram Gokhale is elegant as the rich father but both Amrita Rao and Anupam Kher are completely wasted. The veteran comedian Jagdeep entertains superbly in a surprise cameo.
Pritam, comes up with a routine kind of score with no particular track making a mark or impression. Look wise the film has a rich feel with foreign locales captured beautifully on the screen. So, technically everything is just fine but nothing great with an exceptional touch or class.
In short, it is an Ok, cool movie directed in a simple way with some good comic scenes and fresh faces. But if only Govinda was given a better and meatier role as the divorce lawyer, the movie could have been a far better experience for the common viewer coming for a good time.

It’s the high time Fardeen Khan learnt some acting and Tushar Kapoor did an image makeover, they both are unpleasant to your ears and eyes… Otherwise Govinda, Genelia and Prachi make the movie a must-watch, if you want to laugh (if not your head out) this weekend.
