To me,it is one of the classics that was made during those times. The movie starts with the intro of Superstar as Anandh, who is a very talented motorcycle racer. He's just won a race & the trophy is to be given by a rich estate owner's daughter Uma(Jothi). She humiliates Anandh by criticising his complexion & looks.Though they start off badly, after a few encounters, they eventually fall in love.Uma's filthy rich mom vehemently opposes the match, but later resigns into giving in.Just a day before the marriage,Anandh is requested by Uma's mom to go & meet somebody inorder to get a passport for their honeymoon in Madras where he is overpowered & gaurded by gundas.Helpless,he's tied & beaten. One of the hitmen reads Anandh's diary & moved by their story sets him free. But,it is too late....Anandh just arrives in time to see Uma getting married to another guy.Shatterd he gets into a life of drinking & misery.
Now the second part starts off with a decent, comfortable household with Anandh,Saritha,a little girl called Uma & Delhi Ganesh.Anandh dotes on this little girl.Though he seems to be happy,he still cannot get his lover Uma out of his mind.As fate would have it,Anandh one day happens to meet Uma while going to pick the little girl from school. After a few tears,Anandh comes to know that Uma is happily settled in her married life with two kids. When inquired by Uma he also admits that he has somebody in his life who shovers affection on him. One day,Saritha, who comes to know about Uma & Anandh through the little girl, calls Uma to come to her house, the next day.She says she needs to talk about something important to Uma & make a decision.Saritha mentions that her own house is not a home, but hell...
It's a touching performance by the lead pair-especially Superstar who has rarely acted in such love-failure lover roles.Anybody in love & in specific, who had loved & lost would definitely love this movie....It's a sort of 80's autograph.
