1. Amritsar-based Surinder Sahni, employed with Punjab Power, gets married to Taani although she does not approve of him. She remains cold and aloof, and both do not even communicate. When she expresses a desire to participate in a competition 'Dancing Jodi', Surinder permits her. He then decides to win her affections by posing as a macho Jatt, Raj Kapoor, enrolls in the same competition, gets to be her partner, and befriends her. Unfortunately this overture fails, she ends up detesting him even more, and plans to elope with Raj. 2. Surinder is married to Taani but there is a huge age gap between them. There is no real romance in the marriage. Then, a dance reality show called "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" airs and Taani wants to participate but can't because her husband is not 'hip and happening', she has a fear of losing and she also fears that her friends will laugh at her. Surinder overhears this problem and decides to go in for a makeover. He watches some movies and learns to dance in order to woo his young wife. Throughout the show Taani keeps falling in love to with this 'new and improved' Surinder without once realizing that he's her husband. THE END |

FULL STORY OF RAB NE BANA DI JODI Shy, introverted, and kind-hearted Surinder "Suri" Sahni (Shahrukh Khan) is an office worker for Punjab Power. He quietly falls in love with the daughter of his former professor, beautiful and vivacious Tania "Taani" Gupta (Anushka Sharma), whom he first sees during the preparations for her wedding. Upon their first meeting however, Taani jokingly berates and blames him for setting an impossible set of standards (reiterated by her father) that she was never able to meet as a child. A short while later, Taani's father suffers a heart attack when the entire wedding party learns that her fiance and his family were killed in a traffic accident. Fearing that Taani will be alone in the world, the professor asks Suri to marry her. Suri concedes; Taani tearfully agrees only to please her father.
After a hasty wedding, Suri takes Taani to his ancestral home in Amritsar. While his good nature leads Suri to treat her with exceptional care and patience, he is too frightened to profess his love for her. However, Taani tells him that while she will try to be a good wife, she can never love him due to having no love left within her. Suri still continues to indulge her every desire. This includes frequent visits to the cinema to see song and dance films which appeal to Taani's fantasies about romance and her passion for dancing. She soon asks for Suri's permission, which he grants, to take an expensive dance class with the company Dancing Jodi to escape her mundane life at home.
During one visit to the cinema, Suri feels inadequate in comparison to the strong, masculine images that Taani admires and later asks his childhood friend Balwinder "Bobby" Khosla (Vinay Pathak), a hair-saloon owner, for advice on how to win her love. Bobby is eager to help and suggests a complete makeover (removing his moustache, changing his hairstyle, and giving him a new set of clothing including a pair of sunglasses). Suri is thus transformed into the swaggering, loud, rude, and fun-loving "Raj", named by Suri after the hero in the movie that Taani had admired. He joins the dance class and by chance or, as he believes, by divine intervention becomes Taani's partner in the competition. Despite Raj's initial crudeness a result of Surinder's inexperience with women and his attempt to emulate the "cool" images from movies he and Taani become friends as they work together on their dance routine. Suri feels encouraged when Taani does not tie a rakhi (holy thread) on "Raj's" wrist during the festival of Raksha Bandhan (for to do so would indicate that she thought of him only as a brother). Thus, after a period of time, Raj declares his love for her.
Suri's ruse poses a dilemma for both of them. Taani enters into a period of internal conflict, desperately wanting to escape from her despair-filled life through finding a new person to love. Yet despite wanting to escape her loveless marriage, Taani feels compelled to stay with Suri due to the promise that she made to her father. Suri also faces an extraordinary paradox: Taani's sheer misery as his wife in contrast to her delight with his fabricated alter ego "Raj." He thus attempts to win Taani's love as Suri, an act which only alienates her further. She eventually runs away to find Raj in order to tell him the predicament she is in, hoping he will help her. He offers to elope with her, which she agrees to tearfully. They set the date for their elopement to the next night, the night of the competition.
On the day of the competition, Suri takes Taani to the Golden Temple in order to garner God's blessings for her competition that night--and internally, also for her life with Raj. While there Taani has an epiphany in which she believes God has shown her a sign that tells that her marriage to Suri is divinely inspired. For the first time she reflects on her husband and becomes aware of the strength and integrity of Suri's character. Taani thus tells Raj that she cannot run away with him. She leaves him in what appears to be a state of shock with tears in his eyes. When the time comes for their performance Taani is stunned to see Suri, rather than Raj, join her on stage. It is at that moment that Taani grows to love Suri (rather than Raj) as she discovers his passionate love for her. THE END |

Well lemme clear I mentioned the Superhit word for the Movie Jodi and not the actual Pair in the Moive (SRK and Anushka) coz they look like Uncle and Niece for Sure in the Movie. :D. Story and Screenplay : Adi (Aditya Chopra) does the magic again with coming up with a Story So larger Than Life yet So Real. So far as the Arranged marriages Go. I don’t from where he comes up with this Love Stories yaar?.. all in al the Story is fresh and New and To an extent Original although it has shades of The Classics like Navrang and Satyam Shivam Sundram. Screenplay ?? well it bores in few of the scenes but over all the Movie Needs those scenes so accepted. The Ending is really a blunder as it was highly predictable in terms of the pair winnig the Competition but the way in which they won was not quite Dramatic as it would been otherwise. Story of Yash Raj Movies by Adi is always Super Hit. Direction : Remember DDLJ??? And Mohabatein??? Well here is Adi once again creating Magic with exceptional Love Storytelling . he is Flawless in the Directorial Point Of View Except the Climax. But Since Adi was the Writer of the Script and Dilogues an also the Screenplay Arranger, the movie was entirely his baby and he did a marvelous job in all respects. Adi is as always Super Hit. Cast Performance : SRK… should I ad anything else????????? It’s his Territory(Romantic Movies) and he has done as usual breath taking work . What Makes this Movie Stand Apart from all other Love Stories of his is that he actually didn’t repeated those Stereotype Glycerin Tears and Gajhal Like Dialogues and Overly protecticve Lover acting. He Did inch perfact justice to the characters of Both Suri and Raj. Anushka looks good in tandem and and acts fantastic considering her Debut Movie. Vinay Pathak is Excellent as ever. SRK is as always Super Hit. Music : Salim Suileman did a fairly Good Job in producing the Situation based Music. The Songs are already chart busters so no need to define any songs in particular. But I would really highlight this Song for the Supiriority of Sonu Nigam. “Phir MIlenge, Chalte Chalte” he has sung it like a legend. Remember he had to Produce the vopise of Kishore Kumar, Mohd. Rafi, Mukesh Pancham Da and Himslef as well to create the actual effect the song required. And trust me he has done a remarkable job. No wonder he is the best in the business. Jaydeep Sahni Wrote good Lyrics. Music is Super hit. Technicals : Cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran is very good. Background score by Salim Suileman is fairly impressive in terms of deviating from the usual stereotype AALAPS of the YRF movies. ChoreoGraphy is Considerably Good . although Vaibhavi Merchant didn’t deliever as was expected from her. Shimak Does a fantastic Job in “Phir MIlenge” Other things were again connected to Adi so he is already praised. :D. al;; in all technically bhi movie is Super Hit. Although the Reigning Success of the Movie Ghajini and The Story being a bit more mature to be understood and most importantly grasped by every class of ages. But still the Movie is a hit at the Box Office as well and the second Biggest Grosser of the Year. And j hence I am rating this Movie as 3.5 stars. Way to go Adi. And SRK . Keep Doing the God Work. UD… |

Don't be confused by the title of the post, I have selected this after much thought and it's very much relevant with the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Well if you pull rab out of the movie there is nothing left. Like the leading characters in his film, Aditya Chopra would have also thought that Rab sab theek kar denge. Well God helps those, who help themselves. In this case God doesn't seem to be helping Adi, because you don't expect an almost empty theater in the second weekend after release of a SRK movie. Is there a decline in SRK's popularity or Rab nahi chahte ki Aditya Chopra aur movies banaye.
By now everybody knows the story so I would not waste words in telling you the same. It could have been a brilliant film if Rab was not to decide everything, somethings could have been left on Bobby, played by Vinay Pathak. Whenever there is a difficult situation Adi looks up to Rab for help. Well Rab has given you a brain so that you can help yourself sometime. Not to take the credit away, some scenes are really beautiful and I enjoyed them and had a good laugh on some of them. The only problem I have is with the over dramatic scenes, which seems to have become a trademark of each YRF film and may be the whole country agrees with me, which explains the 100 crore loss, which is being talked about these days.
I always knew SRK can act, you have to just let him not be himself in the movie and I have again been proved right after watching him as Surinder Sahani. Surinder Sahani, Panjab Power, lighting up your life ji, this dialogue is enough to light up your faces, when they are spoken by Suri, not by SRK. On the other hand Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte, really irritated me. That's one irritating way to say bye. They should have put a disclaimer "never try this at home", whenever this dialogue was being spoken.
It would have been a nice film and I would have liked it better if it was 20 minutes shorter. While I enjoyed the first half in pieces, second half didn't seem to end. While SRK is good as Suri, he irritates as Raj*. Anushka Shrama has done a good job. Special mention for Vinay Pathak for his special role. Rab has also done a brilliant job by entering on his convenience wherever he felt like and making the movie more predictable. If you are an SRK fan, you would like this movie, if you are not go and watch Suri.
*Raj is played by a well known celebrity, please do not try these tactics to woo girls in your colony. In case you get slapped, beaten or caught by Police, the producers of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi can not be held responsible. |

The central idea of the movie is to highlight a common man’stake on love. Obviously, there are no Eureka moments in the story and haseverything to do with feelings – big or small. The plot revolves around Suriwho is immensely in love with his wife Taani who has a certain idea about love. While Taani’s idea is that her man be a jolly good fellow, our Suri is more ofa serious (boring) kind. He knows what Taani wants, turns into such type ofcharacter to make her happy. But the realization is that Taani likes the newcharacter opposed to the old Suri. Then the story is about Taani’s realizationthat it’s not OK to be selfish in a relationship and be able to compromise withothers’ interests. SRK has given a breezy performance in both roles of Suri andRaj. Newsprints carry it that that movie was shot in about 40 days. A genrethat SRK is most renowned for, he takes the movie ahead with funny moments andsome emotional situations which make you laugh and empathize with him. Thestory location being a small town in Punjab has distinct Punjabi flavour in itscharacters – lifestyle, eating habits and mainly language and diction. VinayPathak as a small town barber and SRK’s friend has done a good balancing act ofbeing a comedian as well as saying emotional things subtly. He’s not over thetop and comes across as a goofy character you relate with, in your own life. Anushka Sharma as a newcomer maintains a lot of poise in hercharacter. The plot involves both SRK and Anushka in similar capacities and shedoes a very fine role. Her projection of youthfulness, ambitions that of ayoung girl from Amritsar, innocence, commitment to a relationship and feelingsof misery are very natural. She probably did not have to act and just beherself. The role required that she have an upper hand over SRK’s and shecarried it off very well without seeming towered by him. The screenplay is pretty good, where the challenge is topresent a scenario without too many scenes or dialogues. Especially for acharacter like Suri who just expects things to happen and waits without askingfor them. Raj is more reminiscent of some of characters that SRK has played inhis previous movies who expresses his liking for the girl and her presencearound him. There is a question which some of our “logical, sensibleaudience” wants to have answered. One of them being how Anushka cannotdistinguish between both characters that look just so similar, but for themoustache and hairstyle (and of course mannerisms). I guess I’d look at it as aparallel to what must be happening in married man’s life and how his wife isobservant of it. If the guy started doing things the way the wife liked it, shenotices so and likes him. Otherwise if he remains completely himself, it’s notmuch luck for the guy. So I guess that’s the idea presented in the movie albeitin a filmy fashion. The development of Suri’s character in the story is slightlyconfusing as goes back and forth from a recluse to a social person and back tobeing recluse. The end of the story conveys his transformation to a more socialpersonality. May be Adi Chopra wanted keep it implicit that you change somewhatwhen in a relationship. The movie is philosophical to the extent that it urges youto be sincere in your pursuit of love. No one but SRK could have performed thisrole and with so much grace. He plays a character closer to his real age who isvery sincere with his attempts and someone you genuinely want to be a winner inlove. The movie does have some very nice music and the background scorecomplements well – both during funny and sad moments. Like most Yashraj’s hits,RNBDJ too highlights an art form and this time it was dance. Shiamak Davar hasdone a good job of choreographing dance sequences. Overall, the movie is a good entertainer and leaves somescenes embedded in your mind. Once again it’s a good attempt to make you feelthat being in love is one of the best feelings in the world! |
