Sarangadhara

An epic drama dating back to the tradition of kings . Sarangadhara's ( N.T.R) father Raja(king) Ravindhra (  S.V.R  ) is constantly at war with neighbouring kingdom . For the prosperty of the kingdom and safety of his sons future he enters into a peace deal with his neighbouring kingdom. According to the brokered deal Saranga and princess chitrangi ( Bhanumathi) of the neighbouring country were to enter into wed lock . The drama unfolds as  Saranga is in love with another woman and refuses to marry the princess . However , having comitted to the deal the King Ravidhra  himself marries the princess(Chintrangi doesnot realize the plot and believes that she is marrying the Prince until she confronts the truth ) . Though Chitrangi is now the stepmother of Sarangadhara, she is unable to get over her love for him, and having to see him at such close quarters everyday is sheer misery. She attempts to make him understand her feelings, but he spurns all her advances, reminding her that she is his father’s wife and hence akin to his mother.The politics of the Kings castle take a turn when the princess accuses Sarangadhara of an affair with her .In a rage the King order the capture of his son without realizing the truth that his being entraped . The truth is finally reveal and Saranga is saved . An extrordianry cast !!

 The stirring saga of Sarangadhara has been part of Telugu mythology and folklore and has been passed on from yore through the vibrant and varied Telugu art forms. It had also been translated into the other southern languages. The famed litterateur and educationist Gurajada Venkata Appa Rao wrote the story of Sarangadhara as a long poem in English, which was published in “Indian Leisure Hour” in 1883
