Poonam (Amrita Rao) is an upper middle class girl who lives in the small town of Madhupur. After the demise of her parents, when she was very young, her Chacha (Alok Nath) fulfilled the void of a father in her life. But her Chachi (Seema Biswas) was unable to accept Poonam as her own child as Poonam was more beautiful than her Chachi's own daughter Rajni (Amrita Prakash). Poonam was blossoming into a beautiful and radiant young woman embellished with all the right virtues one could ask for. Her simple and affectionate demeanour touches the heart of Bhagatji (Manoj Joshi), who plays our matchmaker. He takes Poonam's marriage proposal to Mr. Harish Chandra (Anupam Kher), a renowned and well-to-do New Delhi businessman, for his son Prem (Shahid Kapoor). Prem is the soft spoken, charming and well-educated young scion of one of New Delhi's most prominent business families. In spite of being brought up in the fast city life of New Delhi, Prem is rooted to the ground and has retained his family's traditional values and upbringing. It is these qualities that make him stand out in today's day and age. When his father takes his opinion on the proposition, Prem is initially taken aback and feels he is too young for marriage and needs to focus on his career first. But being open-minded and respectful to his father's wish, Prem agrees to meet Poonam, know her better and then take a decision. What follows is a 'meeting' arranged by the two families. Prem and Poonam are suddenly in the midst of a situation they have never been in before. What starts off as an awkward, formal exchange of words, grows into a deeper, meaningful conversation. Prem and Poonam discover their soul mate in each other. They are engaged to be married in six months. They go through the most magical and romantic period of their lives. Both realize the importance of the engagement rings that they have given to each other and the special right that they have got on each other in return. Coming from different sensibilities, both want their relationship to be very right for each other. Six months fly by and just when Prem and Poonam are on the verge of exchanging marriage vows... a crisis puts the love of Prem and Poonam through a trial by fire. |

Vivah is the best movie. The role of Prem played by Shahid of a Delhi-based-boy should deserve best actor award,Poonam played by Amrita is the best role from all her earlier films which I liked and the role of a shy girl which she has played is fabulous,Alok as Krishnakanth who is the uncle of Amrita is good in his role and has still the cability to perform different types of roles,Amrita Prakash as Rajni/Choti has played a good role and deserves the best newcomer female award,Lataa Sabberwal who is Rachna who is Shahid's elder sister-in-law has done a fabulous job,Sameer as Sunil who is Shahid's elder brother has done a great role and should do elder brother's roles in all Sooraj's films coming up,Seema as Rama who is jealous of Amrita's beauty should deserve the best supporting role female award,Master Pandya as Anupam Kher's grandson should deserve the best newcomer male award,Anupam as Harishchandra is still strong as he was in Hum Aapke Hain Koun. The music is good especially 'Mujhe Haq Hai','Hamari Shaadi Mein','Tere Dware Pe Aayi Baraat,'Milan Abhi Aadha Adhura Hai' and 'Do Anjaane Ajnabi' is good.
The best scenes are:-
1.The conversation between Prem and Poonam in isolation deciding about their future
2.The family trip to Som Sarovar
3.The scene in which Prem sees Poonam through the binoculars while reaching Som Sarovar by car
4.The conversation between Prem and Poonam before Prem leaves from the house
5.The scene in which Prem sees Poonam bidding goodbye through binoculars while returning New Delhi
6.The scenes of Poonam's visting her would be in-law's house
7.The whole fire sequence
8.The I.C.U. room scene in which Prem marries Poonam
9.The climax marriage scene and the nuptial night scene
I hope Sooraj will make another movie based on marriage with Shahid as Prem and Amrita in the lead roles. |
