Overall Rating
Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma Directed by: Ayan Mukerji Wake up Sidâ?¦the title says everything about what you are going see for next two and half hour. But itâ??s little different than you imagine. After watching this one you wonder whether itâ??s a good movie or an average flick. This is story of Siddharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor) who is totally aimless in his life, as for sure. He knows only one thing, enjoy life fully. Then he meets this â??Wanna be independentâ?? hard working ambitious girl Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma). These two who are exactly opposite to each other becomes friends. They live exactly different lives. She works hard and he party harder. Still they find that innocence in each other. Sid leaves his home due to his fight with his parents as he fails his graduation exam and starts to live in with Aisha where she guides him to a life where drinking shots of tequila is not everything. His passion for photography helps him to get a job at same magazine where Aisha works as an assistant and then movie turns a lot filmy (even more than before). The movie is totally about todayâ??s young attitude where you find two contrast personalities hard workers and wasted youngsters. Ranbir Kapoors has given his best performance so far as a childish guy who is just into all fun. Konkona suites to her role but there is nothing new to see in her. The only thing that makes movie above average is its direction and cinematography. Being very young Ayan makes this movie very fresh though it has nothing new to offer in its story. Senseless jokes are totally avoided by him which makes movie a little serious. Cinematography refreshes you a lot. Costumes play an important role in this one. Cartoon Tees, colorful boxers and socks makes Ranbir really cute and gives him that childish look. While Konkanas costumes are very down to earth which are used by a common girl each day. Most importantly itâ??s practical. You can easily relate yourself to any character of the movie. There is no Lecturebaji and dialogues are totally meaningful. You can actually live the movie for a while because itâ??s very simple. In one line you can say itâ??s a dull story with a really fresh look. Itâ??s something between lame and awesome. Massage of the movie is clear and everybody knows it but this time its little practical. My rating: 3 out of 5 Not a must watch but you can give it a shot.

Wake Up Sid Remember the days when bunking classes was more fun than attending it, or watching a movie was preferable over an assignment, or the days when your mind was preoccupied by certain fantasies without any knowledge of the ground realities. Wake Up Sid takes you to down to the memory lane of your graduation college. Wake Up Sid directed by the first time director Ayan Mukherjee, throws light on the youth and their beliefs. Siddarth Mehra aka Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) is a spoilt brat who has two close friends Rishi [Namit Das] and Laxmi [Shikha Talsania], very rarely communicates with his mother Sarita [Supriya Pathak] and takes his father Ram Mehra [Anupam Kher] and all his hard-earned wealth for granted. Despite all these traits, Sid is an honest boy; sweet, funny and above all, a good friend. Aisha Banerjee (Konkana Sen Sharma) is an aspiring writer from Kolkata who has come to Mumbai to turn her dreams into realties. She meets Sid on his farewell party and they become good friends from there on. Sidâ??s life takes an interesting turn when he flunks in his final year exam. The story is well knitted till intermission but loses somewhat after it as the storyline becomes more predictable and inclusion of Rahul Khanna track was haphazardly managed. The verbal fight among the Mehra family was superbly shot. Some emotional scene make you moist eyed. Also Kashmira Shah in a glam avatar did full justice to her small role. Anupam kher and Supriya pathak were A grade as usual. Konkana was palpable. Subtle dialogue written by Niranjan Iyenger is the USP of this film. Anil Mehtaâ??s cinematography is excellent along with the melodious music of Shankar Ehsaan Loy. All in all a good film which will strike chord with the urban youth.
