Wanted – (2009) – Bollywood Version – Hard Boiled violent gangster film This action thriller has been released in Pakistan cinemas and multiplexes. The public response at the main single screen large cinemas is very good and equally encouraging at the multiplexes and we are confident that Wanted would be block buster of 2009. It is predicted by the film distributors that WANTED will break the records of GHAJNI. A Remake of Telugu film Pokiri titled Wanted Dead and Alive accustomed with the tale of craftily powerful officer who works for Mafia Don. His aim is to eradicate the hoodlums / vice by being in centre of their vicious circle. Veteran star Salman Khan plays the main singular role in the film. Ayesha Takia, Aseem Merchant and Mahesh Manjrekar------inter alia, are in the fleet that holds the latest action yarn. The film is directed by Prabhudeva who also directed the original film. Music director pair Sajid /Wajid most probably have been twined into arranging the music-set up for the action project and the result is phenomenal in some treks. The highlight of Wanted is without question Salman Khan. He is all set to ensure that it makes a worth watch movie at the Cinemas / multiplexes and aggressively promotes the gravity envisaged. On this occasion Salman prima facie opted for a full action thriller instead of the regular mellow dramatic themes which he has been doing in earlier films and we have a violent outlook. Wanted / POKIRI, was reportedly also remade in Tamil with the same screen title. In the Current version, Salman acts with Ayesha Takia Azmi, who resurface and captured the audience by her simple yet purely natural performance. Salman superbly portrays a hard-boiled gangster and Ayesha Takia plays a straightforward chic: who has the self-concept unrolled. Her life takes a 360 degree turn after confronting Salman. Ayesha Takia Azmi may be termed a strained comeback in the film but surprisingly impresees the viewers . This film should be imperative for Salman in letter and spirit on many fronts and indeed his best performance to date on the cinema screen. Wanted totally rests on Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia looks very elegant in her role. Mahesh Manjrekar performs to the negative role assigned. Prakash Raj as Gani Bhai has limited/short but an integral role and superbly executed. The great star of yesteryear Mr Vinod Khanna has been given a role which may be dissatisfactory for him as being a senior artist but is quite instrumental to plot of the film. Aseem Merchant Govind Namdeo has worth of their participation in the film. On the whole, Salman Khan is bound pull the audience to make this film successful at the box office. Wanted is undisputedly a well-written story with brilliant screenplay and opens up with an interesting plot with commissioner Ashraf Khan who primarily focused to eliminate underworld reprehensible activities. Salman Khan in the film only knows the language of money and his loyalties is firmly tagged with any gang provided the money as per his dictates. Gani Bhai played by Prakash Raj gang under the wing Aseem Merchant the right hand of Gani and disloyalty to his accessible gang headed by Data Pawle leads to severe bloodshed, as disputes flare up without warning. However, story takes a random turn which compels Gani Bhai to take matters in his hands and fly back to India. Gani Bhai in the film did mastermind trap of commissioner Ashraf Khan, and the actual identity of Salman Khan should be one of the exciting factors that Prabhu Deva had in the film script and works well and keeping the audience spell bound. Cinematography is first rate. Special effects are at par with any big budget Holly wood Flick; the music will be ephemeral for most cine-goers & is given relatively less importance and it may not click and people will not remember the lyrics but song sequences / set decoration are top-notch. We would merit this film 8.7/10…….Excellent - Regards: Natasha t ali, Faisal Haider, Neha, Syed Ali, and Nadeem. ---The Cinema Circle = Karachi Pakistan. |

Wanted, runaway successes to me.I just wish that would nothave seen ‘Pokiri’, the original version, which was a Telugu flick and ablockbuster. (Because I can’t help myself but get my mind to the comparative analysisB/N both versions) well I m not yet sure if Wanted turns out to be a real moneyspinner, but I don’t doubt if it does. The well timed release and nocompetition will only boost its BO collection. But the biggest reason for thesame is Salman Khan, Who is a sheer joy to watch in an out and out action movie. He seems to enjoy his role in the movie as their no much scope for quality actingwhere he scores pretty less. It’s all about shtyle baazi, catchy one-liners anddishum dishum, and bang-bang. Storylineis very much clear by now so i m not into that area. Salman has some class andthere is no denial about that, and that becomes more eminent when he staysnatural. Debutant director Prabhudevahas made sure to keep the movie away from melodramatic sequences though therewas certain scope for it too. But that was good for the fate of the movie. Itsa total entertainer and i really don’t think that only single screen theatersare going to attract the audience for Wanted. I believe that its going to do thewonders in multiplexes too. The basic concept of the movie here is to providethe core value to the audience which is absolute entertainment. there are somany whistling and clapping moments in the movie. There has been a myth forquite some time that you have to choose ur audience B/W single theaters andmultiplexes, But movies like this proves that a good entertainer sails in all oceans.Performancewiselike I said earlier it boasts completely on salmans’ shoulder and he never letsyou down. He has got some funny moments too in movie, the elevator scene iskinda funny and the platform scene where Takia tries to grab his attentionand he is all busy in munching snacks. The pair looks cute and though there isno hardcore romance but warmth of theirrelationship is quite visible. Ayesha has got nothing much to act but lookgorgeous and she does it with all ease. Looking a bit on a fatty side but that’sokay with a face like she has. Mahesh Manjrekar is good as a wicked cop, butthumbs up to the main villain gani bhai (Prakash Raj), He was there in theoriginal too. But i must admit that he has perfected his villainous art inWanted. After a long time one can talk about a villains act in a bollywoodflick. He has delivered a substantial groove to his character. He manages quitewell the mannerism of a Dan, and his Hindi accent is quite impressive. I guess he can bag somemeatier role from here. Manoj Pahwa (Landlord) has his times in the movie buthe irritates .Vinod Khanna has been wasted, but he had to deliver the powerpacked dialogues before Gani bhai kills him, may be that’s the reason he wasgiven this role, However he was just okay. Govind Namdeo(Commissioner) hasoveracted. Thumbs Up to: Action director (Vijayan),the movie belongs to him, rather then Prabhudeva Salman khan for hisManly act. He really delivers when it comes to show the raw aggression andpower. Ayesha, she lookspretty. Quick-witted dialoguesand comic scenes (To an extent). Prakash Raj, for hisevil act and dialogue delivery, especially in the scene with seasoned actorVinod Khanna where he takes an edge over him. Boney Kapoor forfinancing this project. Thumbs Down to: The rest of the goons, they fail to look and act deadly. The mean girl MehakChahal, She looks like a cheap flesh. Songs, They arepathetic, there is one okayish soft number(Jaan jaan), Other then that all arenot even hummable. Salman’s costumes insongs and his bandana and sunglasses(Hate that). He looks cool in short hair, noneed to cover ‘em up. The tapori log ofSalman's Gang, They simply lack the attitude to be with a deadly assassin (Salman) My Rating 3.5/5 |

guys i have seen the movie wanted... at first by seeing its promo i thought it would have no potential...but after watching the movie i would say its a "ULTIMATE MASTER PIECE"...the heavy hard tashan in movie makes it a topclass... script is not so efficient but it is excellently directed by prabhu deva.. a fine acting by prakash raj and mahesh manjrekar...salman is quite good... i think its his best performance after "tere naam"... ayesha looks cute in movie...a total paisa wasool film...its action is far better then the hollywood movie "wanted" its 8/10 movie..go for it. |

read full review at my blog : HERE It was everywhere. Each channel each newspaper everyone, was telling Salman is going to make it big with 'Wanted'. Still I wasn't looking forward to it at all ! It happens to me many times that if the movie doesn't have good, my kinda music, I would never watch the movie. And 'Wanted' had very much above average soundtrack. So I wasn't thinking of watching it. Also, Action is not my favorite genre at all. Unless theBollywoodFan insisted me on watching it. And also, I found ajnabi, Louella and Nicki's views on Pokiri, made me watch this film. And want to thank all for direct/indirect recco. cause Wanted is such a fantastic experience !!
First and foremost, yes it is like a 90's movie, masala stuff full with action, emotion, comedy. But hey, wait, where was the Technical brilliance in 90's?? Or the thumping sound of action and brilliant screenplay + editing?? Similarity ends instantly. Its only the theme that is always a tried and tested one in Bollywood. But the treatment of the storyline and projection on screen is what makes Wanted worth ceetees and shout outs, and yes House Fulls!!! No doubt the original movies must be great in all senses, cause I think no movie can come closer to originals when they are remade [in that case, please don't argue abt Ghajini, as I still haven't replaced my broken DVD of Tamil Ghajini].
Wanted clearly goes to Salman for his full of arrogance, attitude filled act. He plays what he is. And that works best for his role of Radhey who is a careless, 'self employed' guy whose job is, well, to kill/thrash people but still he has his virtues. Being a 'Hero', he has his girl too. Swweeeet sugary Aayesha Takia playing Jhanvi. He has his own share of baddies. Mahesh Manjrekar as Inspector Talpade, is in a role, you will hate him like you used to hate Prem Chopra in older times. And biggest of them all, Don Ghani Bhai, played by Prakash Raj - unique character who makes you laugh even though he is THE villain !! A Perfect mixup for a Masala entertainer. |

Wanted is the remake of the super hit Telugu movie 'Pokiri'. Radhe (Salman Khan) is a criminal who works on his own terms. He and Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia) share a strange love-hate relationship. Jhanvi tries to change him by imploring him to leave the world of crime, but Radhe is too hardcore a criminal to adhere to her wishes. Radhe refuses to carry out Ganibhai's (Prakash Raj) orders and this leads to a confrontation between the two. The rest of the movie is how their enmity plays out. Some of the scenes that stand out are the elevator scene, Salman and Ayesha's confrontation scenes, Prakash Raj's sleep deprivation scenes and his escape scene and the final twist scene. Some of the scenes are ridiculous like the bowling fight scene or the mandoli scene between the gangs. Read the rest of the review at http://www.tanqeed.com/movies/wanted.cfm |

It’s good news for the real Bollywood fans, the common man, living out of the metros in small cities, towns and villages. Salman Khan brings back to them their good old action cinema with the same punches and enthusiasm which got lost in the new age glossy kind of movies in the recent years. The angry young man is back on the screen bashing all the bad men real hard. And it was indeed a lot of fun and relief to see a true Bollywood kind of movie after a long time stuffed with our own trademark action, fights, love, dance and songs.
Remake of “Pokiri” already made in Telugu and Tamil, “Wanted” starts off normally with a mention of Mumbai underworld nexus and a newly appointed honest Police Commissioner in the town. Salman Khan makes a routine entry as the filmy action hero working for the underworld dons and known for his killer instincts and attitude. After a slow initial start, the movie starts growing on you gradually and holds a strong grip over the viewer till the intermission. Especially the confronting scene at the basket ball court between Salman and Mahesh Manjrekar sets the mood in and you start enjoying the movie from there on.
The explosive second half is a real treat for the action lovers where Salman beats and kills uncountable men left and right with a great confidence. Here you witness the good old cinema of Bollywood Heroism back on screen where the Macho Man is hitting more than 20 men on the screen among the loud roar of claps and shouts from the audiences. Later we even have a suspense element added towards the climax which though is predictable but still adds more spirit to the highly violent fight sequence in the end.
Salman shows great attitude in his highly brutal act and also looks very cool in his casual shirts & denims. His emotional scenes with Ayesha Takia are equally convincing and enjoyable. Thinking about his amazing action scenes in the movie, you just cannot imagine anyone else doing more justice to the role other than Salman himself. Here, I would also like to mention, one highly appreciable scene in the movie where Salman Khan strongly criticizes his close friend for eating “Gutka”. That was indeed a very commendable effort from the actor to save many lives from this highly famous killing habit in the youth today.
Ayesha as the leading lady unexpectedly gives a spirited performance in the movie and is not just there for adding glamour. Mahesh Manjrekar, as the corrupt cop, deserves a special mention for his scenes providing the right momentum to the movie. Govind Namdeo suits the role of Police Chief perfectly but Vinod Khanna is completely wasted in an unimportant role. Mahek Chahal is there as the vamp and Manoj Pahwa tries to make you laugh with his not so entertaining getup.
Sajid Wajid come up with a couple of good numbers enjoyable on the screen (with a special appearance of Govinda & Anil Kapoor), otherwise the movie could easily do without so many songs. Action is the main asset of the movie, getting the much needed support from its Cinematographer. Story wise, “Wanted” has nothing new to offer, but after a long time, Indian Common Man gets a pure MASALA Movie to enjoy on the lines of highly successful action movies released a few decades back. I would even like to rate “Wanted” better than “Ghajini” since it does not take help of any additional (memory) gimmicks added deliberately into the script. Surprisingly, this hardcore action movie comes from the director “Prabhudeva” who is more famous in Hindi Cinema for his amazing dance movements. And quite unpredictably, he delivers a highly entertaining flick for the real common man who simply loves Bollywood movies as one of the most important passions of his life. The critiques may find it over the top and the thinking viewer may find it routine with many flaws in its script, but if you are not among any of these, then just go for this engaging action drama and enjoy your three hours in the cinema with your friends.
Summing up, if you loved watching Amitabh in “Deewar” & Sunny Deol in “Ghayal”, then here is another equally entertaining act by the still young & angry Salman Khan. “Wanted” is undoubtedly among his most hard hitting and enjoyable movies till date with a different Salman altogether as never seen before. So, just go for it now and have a great time with him.
Rating : 3.5 / 5 (With a special mention of Salman’s explosive performance.) |
