Welcome to Sajjanpur is a very sweet and innocent kind of a film....reminds u of the Malgudi days....All characters have done well specially Shreyas Talpade....he is indeed a very fine actor. Also Ravi Jhankal as Munni Bai is outstanding. He deserves an award for this role. Rest of the cast like Illa Arun, Amrita Rao and others have done well........surprisingly the Music is also very soothing to hear and it has some really good lyrics also...Shantanu Moitra has given good music. Last but not the least director Shyam Benegal who has given some real gems has done it again....He is ineed a great sense of film making. In short Welcome to Sajjanpur is a great team effort. Dont go with very high expectations, but its certainly a likeable and watchable. 3 on 5 stars.

A political Satire that is what they call Welcome to SajjanPur . A village originally known as Durjanpur but renamed to Sajjanpur at the behest of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. It seems Mr. Benegal wanted to stay away from controversies and has taken a very soft stance rather than delivering some hard hitting punches at the bureaucracy. It is about a man who aspires to be a novelist but due to the lack of opportunities ends up as a letter writer at the local post office. It is through the letter writing of this person the movie tries to touch upon social, economical and political issues and at the same time it also manages to generate some humor out of it The drawback of the movie is the Dehati accent it is sometimes difficult to figure out the jokes. Even a fine actor like Shreyas Talpade does not seem comfortable with it. There is some twist at the end of the movie which was not required but does no harm to the original plot. The movie opens which the song Sitaram which is a nice fusion of American country music with India classical Instruments. There is another nice hummable song Mita Marz. Overall it is an Ok movie but more is expected when the Director is Shyam Benegal and the protagonist is Shreyas Talpade. Can be enjoyed in theaters but not highly recommended.
