Welcome to the great old malgudi days.........
well after a long time such a simple but a movie that brings joy and the sheer screenplay makes the movie very lively.
I just love the song ......"aai munnibai ki bari". The cast selection is appropriate ...shreyas though still looks uncomfortable in the movie with the bihari twang....emotions are depicted fine by him....amrita rao also has done a gr8 job....watch out for ila arun's great little scenes in the movie....munnibai acting was done well.....all in all a good noble movie kicking off the commercial aspect of the movie..way to go Benegal ji.
Its a feast for viewers' minds to watch Welcome to Sajjanpur.It felt as if i actually visited Sajjanpur and came back from a trip there as i exited the theatres after watching the movie. Right from the first scene, it explicitly gives the viewers a feel that there is a multifaceted and talented director behind a lucidly written script and screenplay, who holds strong on the pulses of the viwers. The story is an amalgamation of characters who live in a village called Sajjanpur and the common link between them is Mahadev alias Shreyas who is a professional letter writer of the village. As the story revolves, we get to know small incidents about a budding love between the village compounder and a child widow, a story of a prejudiced mother trying to marry off her modern and feminist daughter, a corrupt politician vs a eunuch, who touches our heart by making us feel that eunuchs are human too, the story of Kamla, a girl who is waiting for her husband for last 4 years and how their story revolves involving the letter writer which almost chokes us with emotion. I found a little resemblance of the movie to "Malgudi days" which is again a nostalgic image of rural India. Every scene unfolds with humour but speaks indepth about how life and people in Rural India are....their innocence, honesty and at the same time the caste system, prejudices, politics, orthodox rules etc.
Performances are mind blowing not only by the main lead Shreyas Talpade and Amrita Rao but by all the characters , even by those whose screen presence is of mere 5 minutes, yet Hats off to the Master Director whose master stokes can be well observed in even minute details of the movie.
Music by Shantanu Moitra is okay but not as commanding as his earlier works like Parineeta, Eklavya and Laga Chunari Main Daag.
Overall, its a beautiful movie, absolutely worth watching. So.... pack your bags for a short trip to Sajjanpur.
This movie is crap....damn boring....n totally dsapntng....[:(]....hard to beleive but the director like shyam benegal(i respect him truly for his contribution to indian cinema) has come up with such a faltoo film that doesn't deserve even a single star....jst forget 2 watch this movie....baqwas....fully faltu...a character driven film with poor plot,poor(?)direction n some characters literally sucks.i dnt knw why did an experienced filmmaker like Benegal fall prey to the trend of dream songs? Not only is the song placement flawed the soundtrack is a big bore as well.....shreyas is OK but not at his best.....well overall it's better to watch any other movie bt not 'welcome to sajjanpur'...from me....00000/5.... { P.S : HAVE GIVEN A STAR BECAUSE OF THE RULE-------> "Please resolve following and resubmit 1. Please rate the movie on a scale of 1-5 using the overall rating stars"... }
